Default Fuel System Questions

I am LS Swapping my 350z..

I decided to make my own fuel system from top to bottom. Starting with:
-Fuel Cell
-8 AN fittings an line
-Aftermarket Fuel Rails
-Walboro 255
-AN 8 Filter

It is set up, fuel cell in trunk to Walboro- to fuel rails. Crossover is on the front of the intake. The return line comes off the driver side rail all the way to the tank.

I went to start it for the first time, it did not start. I have spark and i have fuel flowing but seems like its just all coming back the return... i guess. (8an return BTW)

I kind of figured i needed a regulator before i even attempted the start, but i thought the car would start even without the regulator? Am i wrong here?

Will a regulator fix the issue? Do LS motors need an exact constant 60 psi to even start lol. I am ready for this to run lol

Without the regulator, is fuel just flowing freely from the pump to the rail, then back to the tank? Sounds like nothing in the line to build pressure behind, which is what the regulator does before sending leftover fuel back to the tank. Just my .02...

Do you have a repair manual for your vehicle? It can help give you a visual of what you are doing and I have found it quite helpful in these situations.

Yes you will need a regulator to start the car. Without it, your fuel pressure will be too low to really get any fuel through the injectors. -8 is a big return, -6 is more common, you will need to get a regulator that can handle a -8, or use an adaptor. Most regulators I've owned were 3/8 NPT or -6 ORB with the O-ring, on the return.

Right so, we crimped the line close to the tank with some pliers to make sure we had pressure at the rail. I know, I know, redneck fuel pressure regulator. I thought it would start then.

So you are saying... if i get a regulator, and put it close to the tank, it should run. lol

I believe -8 will be fine for both, I have looked at regulators. Theres someone who will give me a cap and make the return outlet -8.

Hahaha, you're so right.

In my head i pictured the car at least starting. I knew it wouldn't run without one. But I ASSUMED it would start lol
