It smoked alittle at start up.,Could of been the heads (valve stem seals), Plus with the motor out and the oil pan and heads off it would be easy to pull the crank & rods and install bearing and rings to freshen it up. The reason i pulled it was to put in my new LS2 418cid. that i built. The 347 motor run perfect and had lots of power just a little smoke at start up mainly in the morning or after setting over night. This motor has every thing but the heads cam and lifters . It has Polly motor mounts water pump all covers double roller timing chain ,LS6 ported oil pump 45psi at idle and a set of comp com hardened 7.400 push rods.

wouldn't the piston to wall clearance not be correct if you honed it for a new set of rings? If you didn't hone it the rings wouldn't seat correctly. Also what year is the block?

If you used a ball type hone ,and cut a cross hitch i dont beleave the clearance would be out much at all ,maybe .001 to.002" at most. (the thickness of a human hair)
