amp kit ?
hey guys
i am getting tired of waiting on money to pay someone to do my install so i am going to do it myself
my rear hatch set up will have a ppi art series a404 4ch for my mids and highs, a ppi art series a600.2 for my stealth box. i will also have a sony xdp-210 EQ and sony cdx-c91 10 disc changer. of course the changer will not require power/grnd connections but the eq will. my question is what size amp kit will i need? 4 ga from battery then 8 gauge to the amps? should i get power for the eq from distribution block for the amps or from somewhere else? i know the eq won't need 8 ga or anything that big. thanks for the help

cool
thanks guys
let me ask another question, when doing the big 3 (changing the alt to bat, bat to starter, ground to block) what gauge wire do they suggest? may as well do that while i am doing my install

man i wish i had a 160amp alternator lol.. anyway are you upgrading using the stock alt or do you have a new one? 4 gauge will be suffencient for stock and 2 gauge will be sufficient for any bigger one

i have done many installs over the years but never on one of my f-bodys. so i have recruited my pops
which is so ironic it is not funny! he has been telling me i was stupid/crazy all these years for the systems i have had, he is 67, me 44, but he can do anything. he doesn't know the connection part of it but i do. he is for the paitience and creative side of it. especially anything i am going to need fabricated. like installing my tweeter pods, building a proffesional looking amp rack set up for the amps eq and changer that sort of stuff.
he once worked at a tree nursery and when they would need a new conveyer system, or potting set-up etc. he would go to someone that sells the equipment, take pictures, then fab it from scratch adjusting it to their needs, they cried when he retired
i am pretty sure with his help my install should be tight!
thanks again

With your stock alternator and 1000watts of power you should be fine. I ran mine with 160,000 miles on it and over 1000watts of power and it still ran well for 3 years. As a precautionary measure and for the ability to "go bigger" down the road, I stepped up to a 160amp alternator when the stocker finally gave up the ghost and then did the big three upgrade utilizing 2ga wire. Even stock my lights never dimmed and I used 4ga power with a 2ga ground I already had. The only time you would have an issue is if the alternator was starting to go bad in the first place. Then putting a system on top of that would enhance the issue. As long as your stock alternator is in good condition you should be ok!
