I have a 406 small block chevy thats going to go in a 1986 camaro and im going with 11.3:1 compression ratio and AFR 210 competition heads 93 octain gas and be able to use power steering and breaks feel nice but i wouldnt mind using a vacuum canister but i want it to be streetable but able to get on the track and run some good #s im going with a solid roller for sure.. and my plans are to make around 550+ hp all motor and my cam choices are 2 Lunati Voodoo cams either a Adv285/293-- Dur@.050 255/263-- .600/.600 on 1.5's model number LUN-60134 and my second choice is a smaller voodoo Adv279/285-- Dur@.050 249/255-- .585/.600 on 1.5's model number LUN-60133 both 110 LSA i would appreciate the help thanks

That one is the one i would use. The heads would work better if they had a little porting, but you can get 600 HP out of the 400.

I would have Tony at AFR spec you a cam since you have AFR heads. That's what I ended up doing. I am building a similar 406 at the moment.

i would take my head flow #s and contact a cam company and tell them what my goals are and see what they come up with.

I used an XR292R last time and it would work good for you. great on the street. 254/260 @ .050" .619/.627 with a 1.6 rocker. shifts at 7000.

My new piece is from Bullet and is 259/263 .660" with a 1.6 rocker. Also drives nice, shifts at 7500.

So of the 2 you listed, I'd choose based on gear and weight.

If the car is light and has track only gearing, do the cam with more duration...

If it's heavy with street gearing, do the short duration piece. it should make a little more torque on the bottom end and get the car moving.

I ran the XR280R cam in my 406 (280/286 .570/.576) with fully worked Pro-Topline heads and all the works and it mustered a 514hp/564 ft/lb. It had real good manners on the street also.
