Default Distributor an coil help

Which distributor and coil would you reccomend for a 383 sbc? I need to get a new one because I have been disappointed with the accel distributor and coil that I have. It is for a street car.

Thanks in advance, Al

Depends what kind of room you have.

MSD makes some really nice HEI style distributors with the coil in the cap and some with remote coils.

What's your specific problem with the Accel? Is it their HEI version? Are you running high compression or using an MSD (or other) box?

My problem is that they keep burning out. I've been through 3 distributors, 4 coils, and 5 modules. I'm changing a part about every 4 months. It's the billet electronic, not HEI. running about 10:1 cr. No box and its got an accel super coil, taylor super spiro pro wires, with accel shorty spark plugs. I can't get model numbers now because the car is covered in snow

I am not sure about the voltage requirements, but you might have to much voltage going to it. I know the Mallory with the electic eye inside requires 6 volts and if you put more than that you will burn it out. I have done that twice about 20 years ago. Since I figured that out, I have not burned one since. and this is on the same dist.

My dad checked and double checked, he said voltage was fine. This is the first distributor we are having a problem with. I think we are going to replace it with an msd or a pertronix flamethrower. Does anyone have experience with pertronix? We have used msd on another small block chevy, and a small block ford with no problem, just looking to see if there was something better.

Probably not going to get much better than a MSD.
