Default Limits and costs of a '94 350 Chevy motor

My buddy's and I all have the itch to do a project motor together and find a car to put it in after we get the motor done. We currently have found a 1994 Chevy 5.7 350 with new bearings, crank, and some bottom end work (just new parts, not performance wise). It has the stock heads, minus an intake/carb/distributor and only wants $200 for it.

How hard would it be to churn out 500+hp out of this thing?

I don't know a thing about these motors, so feel free to say whatever, I'm a straight up newb to these motors. We won't be spending a TON of money, and plan on keeping as tight of budget as possible, but we aren't afraid to spend money if WE HAVE to.

Anybody have any ideas/siggestions? Thanks!

500+ n\a hp out of a 350 costs alot of money. unless you just dump a 250 shot on it and call it a day.

vic jr race heads, .600" lift cam and 13:1 compression. you're not going to pull this off with pump gas.

OR

performer rpm package, + 150 shot. you'll be beyond your goals, on pump gas and streeable. nopt to mention cheaper.

Wrong![/QUOTE]

how much wrong? how wild do you want the engine to be?

i hit 500 hp on a 400sb, vic jr heads, 246-256 cam with .560" lift, and 10:1 compression. it was just nicely streetable.

you want to reach that that kind of hp out of a 350 you either need high compression or a valvetrain to rev the living ***** out of the engine to reach hp that way--- say 7500-8000rpm?
that's beyond the capacity of a stock bottom end.

I've heard a few different ratings on these motors, how much HP would this thing have stock realistically?

I'm definately thinking a 150 shot is in order...no question.

You just need to do better picking out engine combinations. If all you could get was 500 out of a 400 sb then you need to go back to the drawing board. here's a 406 on 87 octane with only a single pattern 230 Lunati cam and 180 AFR heads. It only made 10 hp less than you with 9.3 compression.

Here is a 350 with AFR 190 heads on pump gas 10 to 1 comp with 527 hp. Put in a little smaller hydraulic roller and it will still be over 500hp.

The combos are out there, just making sure to pick the right set up and matching everything is the key
