What's it going to be for? A lot of circle track guys run that combo. If your car is for the street then it doesn't really matter. Go with what's easier and cheaper.

They make good circle track motors, they turn up quick and make good high rpm power.

It depends on a lot of variables, but generally it's around there.

One of my friends built one for his chevelle, with aluminum heads and 10.5 CR he went 11.5 @ 120 in the 1/4. Not a daily driver but street legal.

I have even seen the 3.25 cranks in 400 blocks in round track engines.
but thats where a cubic inch limit is enforced...

really theres no replacement for displacement but, it sure is convenient to run regular non-counterweight balancers and flywheels and no heavy weight added to the crank to get internal balance. plus you can cram in some extra valve size. the large bore also unshrouds the valves, big rods without grinding/clearancing, pistons without crazy pin heights, 350 factory forged cranks... the advantages kind of outweigh the disadvantages.

BTW federal mogul/sealed power make a 1 piece main bearing. no spacers

.

Track only drag cars used to love the 377". A light car used to fly with one. With all the bad *** cranks & blocks out now, everyone is going big. 400" + small blocks are everywhere. I know I'm old, but street cars prefered a 383" over the 377" in my day.

i feel the 377 saves ur traction since it makes less torque than a 383 but more hp, and those high revs can have those trap speeds up there man!!!!

If you do decide to use a 377 type combo I would recommend useing a Scat 3.5" stroke crank instead of the traditional 3.48". They make them in a cast steel crank rated to 650HP and their various forged models as well. This will save you some money on having the block decked. You will then just need to have the block surfaces trued up and you will be very close to +/- zero deck. Depending on the bore size of your block you may be very close to 383 cubes (example: a 4.165" bore with a 3.5" stroke is 382 cubes). From the dyno data that I have seen your short stroke large bore motors will actually make slightly more TQ than a small bore long stroke motor. The other odd peculiarity is that the small bore long stroke motor will peak at a higher rpm than the large bore small stroke motor with the same camshaft. Just food for thought.

Thats some intesting info... I've never really done the research on the big bore/short stroke vs the smaller bore/long stroke... I'll take that into consideration...

honestly, unless you are either using a stock block, and will make enough power to split it with the 377... or the 377 is just a ton cheaper, there is no reason not to build a 400 (406 to be technical). It will make more power, and probably be a lot easier on parts.

What he said.
Especially with the small stall in heavy pickup....its a no-brainer....Build the 406ci!

.

Weight is not a friend, especially of a 377", heavy truck on the street, I agree with everyone else. Inch's & stroke will do what you want. Good luck.

Thats kinda what I was thinking, but I already have some of the stuff to do a 377. So I will do the 406... I've looked and decided to get the following: Eagle Street/Strip bottom end (Cast crank, H rods, Keith Black forged pistons) Partiot Freedom series heads w/ custom cam (240-260 and ~ 525-530 lift, havnt decided yet) Vic jr intake and holly 750 dominator. I'm thinking about 475 w/ this set up w/ no spray.

What are you goals/intended use for this truck? That is a big cam (duration wise) for just a 2500 stall. I would also use a Performer RPM Air-Gap intake instead of the Victor Jr., again due to your stall converter.
