Default ls1 starter

Would a ls1/lt1 starter fit and work on a sbc? I was just curious about it.

Its cuz my headers lay right next to my starter and it heats up and gives me problems starting. So the lt1 starter should work since it is smaller right?

The LT/LS starters are the same I think. Either one will work.

What about wiring it up? Do they go in the same pins? as the starter on the car now?

Yeam the LT1 style is the same wiring. It is smaller and lighter, that is why so many use them.

I cannot remember exactly, but the starter bolts might be a little shorter. I remember i had to use some spacers to get a regular bolt(the long one) to work, i had one fall out.

a 90 model 4x4 s10 with a 4.3L in it will work as well.

NO, a LS1 starter will not fit and work on a SBC/BBC. Mini-starter selection on your SBC also depends on the size of your flywheel (153 or 168 teeth?).

S10 might be smaller due to being a weaker part that doesnt spin as much torque. I am not sure, but it makes since.

if the torque ratios is different, its not by much.
i had one on a 11.5:1 383 for 2-3 years and no issues.
several other people i know use them on mud trucks because they have a drain at the bottom.

Well i looked it up on the autozone website and this thing is small. It only weights 8.5 lbs! Thats is extremely light compared to the one on there now!

the s10 starter also clears hooker long tubes.
i had a adjustable starter that was only 3 way adjustable and i couldnt get it mounted with the solenoid up or down to clear the damn headers.
s10 piece tucks up nice.
on the other hand. the hitachi brand mini starter is a badass piece.
they are just under 200 bucks. usually an add in the back of magazines and whatnot.

Well i went to autozone and i checked out the s10, lt1 and original starter and the s10 looks like the bolt pattern is the same but the lt1 starter was different. I dont think an lt1 starter will work because the bolt holes were way off where it bolts to the block. It was a 95 lt1 starter. Im sure they are all the same but that one wont bolt up to my block. The original one and the s10 starters are pretty identical just alot smaller and they have the same amount of teeth on the gear on the starter. So yeah i guess the s10 one will be the only one that will work if you want to go with a smaller starter.
