Default about collector plates

if this is in the wrong forum i'm sorry. I was just wondering where i have to go to see if my car qualifies for collector plates. I kinda need them since the car is getting heavily modified over winter and will not pass e-check. I have a 98 ws6, black, 6-speed. I heard from a local performance shop that any ws6 or ss qualifies but i want to know if i do before i go through all of the appilcation crap and waste my time. Oh yeah i live in ohio, not sure if that makes a difference, i don't know if the laws on collector plates are different in every state. Thanks for any help that you can give me.

I live in Ohio and I have collector plates on my 2000 WS6. I called the License Bureau and they said my car was listed as a collectors vehicle. I believe all camaros and firebirds are considered collector vehicles because they are no longer produced (but I could be wrong). Anyway, you shouldn't have any problem getting collector plates as long as you have another vehicle that is your primary mode of transportation.

You should call the License Bureau to verify this.

I got a couple of questions here. What exactly are collectors plates? Can you still drive your car if you have them on? How much do they cost?

I was told I could drive my car as much as I wanted (i.e., no limitations). And with collector plates my car is exempt for e-check. As for the cost, I don't remember. I believe I pay around $80, but my plates are personalized. For just collector plates I would guess it would be around $50. You could check with the License Bureau to get the exact prices.

Depends completely on the State. Illinois only offers antique plates, and they are only for cars 20 years or older . . .

In IL you can get an emissions exemption, but you have to reapply annually.
