Thumbs up WS6 Cars don't seem to drop in value....

The WS6 T/A seems to hold it's value pretty well. Having just purchased my car, I noticed the standard price seems to be between 19-25K. Mine was about 20k with 33k on the clock I wonder if it's going to be like the Buick GN in a couple of years.... Thoughts?

No, it won't be like a GN in a couple years.
F-Body's don't hold their value that well either, ...
Simply look at one that's a year older, then look at one a year older than that.
You'll be surprised at how much the price goes down for the f-body that is a few years older.

With a quick check of the autotrader, I found the following prices:

98 WS6 Formula- 117k miles- $8900
99 WS6 Trans Am convertible- 95k miles- $11900
98 WS6 Trans Am- 66k miles- $14000
01 WS6 Trans Am- 59k miles- $14850
00 WS6 Trans Am- 74k miles- $15900
02 WS6 Trans Am- 57k miles- $16500
02 WS6 Trans Am- 69k miles- $18000
02 WS6 Trans Am- 39k miles- $18900
02 WS6 Trans Am- 44k miles- $19900
01 WS6 Trans Am- 43k miles- $20000
01 WS6 Trans Am- 58k miles- $20499
02 WS6 Trans Am- 20k miles- $21500
00 Formula Firehawk- 28k miles- $22000

Keep in mind these are asking prices- the selling price is likely to be $1k or more lower. Basically what these numbers show is that the LS1 f-body, while a great performing car, doesn't hold its value at all. In these prices I've listed, there is a 2002 WS6 TA with 20k miles on it where the owner is asking $21,500 for it. Considering this car sold brand new for about $33,000, this car lost 35% of its value during its first 20k miles.

The WS6 will never be like the GN. While the GN was a relatively low-production car, WS6s are a dime a dozen. In the last years of production, more WS6 TAs were made than regular TAs. The market is saturated with them. It's easy to find low mileage examples too, which only compounds the low value of the higher-mileage ones. Probably every week I see a WS6 or SS Camaro for sale with less than 10k miles on it.

About a year or two ago there was someone here in the Phoenix area who had a 2002 pewter Formula Firehawk that had 800 miles on it. I saw it in the autotrader for $29k. A month or so later, it was listed for $27k. A month after that, $25k. The last time I saw it listed it was for $23500. This car probably cost $10k more than that brand new, even though it had only 800 miles on it.

Basically what I'm trying to say is, enjoy your car. It's going to drop in value fast- unless you want to not drive it to keep the miles fairly low, as well as hold on to it for 20 years. Even then, who can say what they'll be worth, especially with cars coming out today with 400 or 500 HP or more. The LS1 WS6s and SSs in the future could end up being like the 3rd gen IROC Camaros are today. The IROCs were great performing cars when they came out, but you can find them for $3500 all day long now. Even the LT1s, which were the top dogs in their day, can easily be found for $5000 in good condition.

Maybe I was in a hurry when I bought my car, all the extremely low milage cars had an asking price of about 25-29K. I don't know hom much of a difference the state you live in has on price

I definately plan to drive my T/A!! In regards to hanging on to it for twenty years.....Really just waiting for the 009 Camaro, and maybe Trans Am.(I really hope GM makes a fifth gen bird, but I don't think it's going to happen. Bob Lutz was quoted as saying "Firebirds day is over".)Anyway, I just wanted a car to have some fun with. The GTO is a neat car but the looks are rather bland. A Corvette is a bit pricey, and I'm not a Ford guy. The WS6 fit perfectly for what I want right now.

Maybe it won't have Grand National status, all I know is I feel pretty good driving it.

well at least around here in orlando the ws6 is very rare. no way a dime a dozen. we're plagued by rice and stangs. and the value of the bird should be based on miles condition and color. I just looked up the blue book on my car with 30k and was around $20+k

You need to keep your T/A! That's a KILLER color! I almost bought one of those exactly like it, but the dealer and I couldn't see eye to eye.
Killer "Pimpin car'!
Mustangs and T/A and Catfish don't keep their value worth a dang!...........except to their owners!

That's right around what I paid for mine. BTW SOM is a beautiful color!!!

We actually lived down in Florida for about a year. My wife and I had a nice townhome in a little place called Kenneth City, right next to St. Petersburg. I loved living out there, but the job situation didn't work out...The southern states just don't seem to pay like up north. Hope I don't sound harsh, but that was my experience.

Come to think of it, I was looking at WS6 cars out there and I think they were also between 19-25K.

Oh well, just drive 'em and enjoy 'em!

I looked up the value of my car. With 65,000 miles, its still worth anywhere from $19,000-22,000. I think they hold their value very well. yes, they lost 35% of their value off the bat, BUT they arent dropping very much under $20,000 after that. Which shows that they are holding value

Actually I would rarher live in the south as opposed to the midwest. The winters never seem to end in Chicago.

I can't tell you guys how much I enjoyed living in FL, if only for a brief time.

7 of my friends drive ws6's in the orlando area. I see at least 1 or 2 a day other than my friends cars.

the most i ever see a ws6 is when i hang out at the fuel **** corner. thats fuelslut.net. but i never see a ws6 for sale in the news paper or in auto traders. i see more camaros and pages of mustangs but never a ws6.

i like living here to but they need to change the employment laws here. i had to get out of new york 10 years ago because i cant stand the cold.

why did you sell your som? in 2002 they made even less. i belive 303 was the build count.

I loved the car and yes in 02 they only made 303 in 6spd.. I am upgrading to a 02 ZO6... SOM is a great car it was hard to see it go but I paid 21500 in 04 with only 12500 miles so I sold it after driving it for two years and only lost 1000 dollars so it was the right time to get out for me.....Yes if you can get 25 I would get out and get a Z06 buts its all on what you want a vette is a different animal........If I had the cash a M3 would be what I was after....
