Default Help me pick out a DVD/Navigation Head unit for my new GTO

Hey guy,

This week im going to pick up my "new-to-me" GTO.

The purpose for the car is a comfy daily driver.

THe first mod i have planned for it is an in-dash DVD/Navigation head unit.

I've been looking at the Pioneer AVIC F90BT. It seems i can pick one up online for mid-$500's.

Are there any better ones out there for that price range? I dont know much at all about car stereo stuff. The Alpine and JVC models also have my attention because they have larger screens (7" vs 5.8")

I would like to get this ordered today so it will be here when i get the car.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

You might consider the Kenwood DNX6140. It's a little bit more expensive but it has navigation by Garmin.

If you're wanting a unit that is gonna be there for creature comforts and NO amps, than go with Pioneer's F90BT; if you're okay with the 5.8" screen. The MSN-Direct feature is pretty cool too. If you want the larger screen and don't care about the MSN stuff...than go with the Kenwood units that are available. It'll all boil down to which one you like better. My advice...go find a store locally and play around with the units. That way you get to test drive them both for yourself.

Choice one would be D3, but since they arent made anymore i would say either the kenwood or alpine. i hate the f series. i install themn at work constantly and they are just terrible, imo. The jvs looks terrible imo, and the quality is lacking. The kenwood, having garmin gps, is very user friendly, while the alpine, either 205 or 505 are great, prob a little more expensive though.

I was going to say that is incorrect - the Kenwood units support MSN Direct. But then I checked and I can't find any mention of it in the specs. Now, I know my DNX5120 supports MSN despite not being mentioned in the online specs so it is likely the newer DNX?140 models also support it but you might have to confirm that with Kenwood or your local dealer.

I can't believe people would spend $30 for something so totally bogus - no special device is necessary to bypass the Kenwood system. Disclaimer: the bypass is only to enable use of the GPS controls by the passenger (because none of us would be stupid enough to watch video while driving).
