DO NOT TRUST YOUR ESCORT 9500ix to pick up LASER
Got my second ticket today from an officer that used a laser gun. Funny part was my $500 Escort 9500ix Radar/Laser detector never picked them up. Ok, now I understand the Laser is a very concentrated beam and they often aim for your LP or headlights and it may not hit the detector, but today, I asked the officer to laser me right in front of my car, guess what, the detector didn't do ****! He stuck the gun all the way up to my windshield 3 inches from the detector and and after holding it there for over 10 seconds, it lit up and said LASER for a brief second and we couldn't get it to pick up the laser after that. Now Escort claims these thing are made to pick up the threat before it can get you and when it comes to Radar, I fully agree but not with laser. I called Escort today about the issue and was told my detector was most likely working right but it is very hard to pick up laser. WTF, this is part of why I bought this thing and now Im on the phone with them and they are telling me basically that their product doesn't work as advertised. So just a word to the wise, don't buy this detector and think you are safe from Laser, it doesn't work! If anyone else has had similar experiences, I would love to hear about it.

your pretty much S.O.L if you get hit with a LIDAR gun. they turn it on when they want to and when it's on it's usually too late. it don't matter if you have the best top of the line detector, it's not going to save you EVERY time. it might save you sometimes. and i see you live in CA. i believe laser jammers are illegal here.

I got busted with a laser many years ago...my Valentine One lit up like a Christmas tree, and I immediately slammed on the brakes. Cop flew up in a hurry and pulled me over.
The first thing out of his mouth? "Where's your radar detector? You know those things don't do you any good, right?"

LIDAR jammers are legal in most states. They are illegal in California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, and of course Virginia (where all radar/laser detectors and jammers are illegal). Otherwise, they are light emitters rather than radio frequency emitters so they are not covered by any FCC regulations or federal laws.
They work by sending a pulsed light that confuses the LIDAR gun and can be somewhat effective at a distance but are pretty much useless close in.

Would like to know where you have your 9500ix mounted. Have had 0 issues with mine picking up lasers in the past. Like said though, usually when it lights up, its pretty much just telling you, "got you!!"
Where detectors are mounted makes a huge difference. I always laugh when I see the people with the detectors up in the tint strip with it angled at 45* or right behind their hood line.
What even convinced me more of this was my brother in law has a 9500ix also, suction cups stopped working so he was just putting it on his dash cause his friends that are electrical geniuses said it would still work the same and I am dumb for putting it in the middle of the windshield. We were on some back roads heading to a lake and wife was following in her TA. Suddenly she dropped back fast, thought something was wrong and tried to call her than around the corner on LEO came around, hit the brakes and another came around. Got pulled over and told to slow down. Wife later came up because they pulled her over and claimed she was speeding and let her go also. She asked why we didn't slow down because she caught them a good 10 seconds before we even saw them.
Also I would take what he was doing with his gun and your radar detector with a grain of salt. Could have been turned off or whatever not sending a signal trying to convince you to ditch it.

I have looked at the laser jammers, they are hard to get in CA but some kits are marketed as "parking assistants" as they have the capability of telling you how far you are from something.

Exactly...that whole speed of light thing really gets you, not to mention the narrow beamwidth that pretty much guarantees that you are the one being pointed at.

I can verify that my V1, X50 8500 and Vector 995 have saved my *** on more than one occasion. That's why I have a radar in each car I own. Not worth $125+ speeding tickets for going 10 over the speed limit.

Usually laser is used around a corner or hill so by the time you see them they are already pulling out after you. Most of the places I see it used there isn't anywhere to go if you wanted to try and speed up. You take the risk when you speed, yea it is no fun paying fines but no one forced you speed.

There maybe something wrong with your radar but still if they hit you with laser if it goes off or not you have maybe half a second to slow down. If you want to jam laser google "laser interceptor" they make the best jammers, they are illegeal in a few states but not many. But my 9500ix works perfect for me.

Valentine 1 is by far the best at picking up laser "scatter", the situation needs to be right for it to happen. If the car in front of you gets hit with laser in the headlight (most common area in states w/o a front plate) a little bit will go down the side of the car, the farther the gun from the target (headlight) the more can slip down the side of the car. At 2000ft a lidar beam is about 6ft wide, this is typically the farthest distance officers shoot.
I have owned / tested every high end radar detector our there and have also sold most models of lidar guns. I have personally tested the above with a Kustom Prolaser 3 lidar gun and the V1 would pick up about 30% of the shots, Escort redline, and 9500ix never picked up anything in my scatter tests.
Picking up scatter is few and far between.....
