Default Escort Passport X50 Detectable in VA, DC????

Im going to have to make a trip to NJ from NC next week and will be going thru VA and DC and i know that radar detectors are illegal there.

I have a Passport X50 and need to Know from VA user and residents that have THIS EXACT detector ONLY!!!!!! if i can get away with using it or should i turn it off.

I need to know that it was not detected when you passed a cop and your detector signaled a cop was running radar.....not just that you passed a cop they didnt do anything.

I did a goggle search and i think VA is now using a spectra units? or something like that.

Do the X50's make it thru VA and DC

I ran that one years ago with no problems. Traffic is so bad anymore it's hard to speed.

I have a sister in VA, but I haven't been to her house in about 2 years. I can say that I didn't have any problems with my 8500 and I was definitely clocked. I mount mine in the upper left corner of my windshield and turned the display off so it was audible only while I was in VA.

hmm? i mount my 8500 X50 upper windshield by the rear view mirror. works great up there.

Ive been running with a RD for ever and its just piece of mind now and habit.

X50 is suppose to be better than the 8500. I just need to be sure that i can use it and possibly be clocked in a pack or solo and not get nabbed for having it.

Been through with my 8500 x50 many times with no issues. It was hardwired and above the rear view mirror so the only way to see it was to bend over and look in the car. You will be fine.

I know what you are talking about, the old units were VG2 and the newer ones are Spectre.

From Escorts site:

Should I be concerned about radar detector detectors?

U.S. non-commercial drivers should not be concerned at all unless you drive in Virginia or Washington DC. If you do drive in either of those places, are a commercial driver, or drive in Canada, please note that while all of our current detector models are immune to the VG-2 radar detector detector (RDD), all of our radar detectors except the RedLine and Passport 9500ci can be detected by a newer RDD named Spectre.

I lived in Va for four years, and drove in DC as well, and never had any problems. Can't be 100% sure anytime, but not all cops are using those units. It will be luck of the draw if you run into the one cop in the area that has one.

FWIW, I am moving back to Va in Feb/Mar and I will still be running my Escort, the benefits outweigh the potential risk to me.
