Default Help with 98 Camaro

Having a hard time figuring out of my car has the monsoon system or not.

Its a 98 Camaro Z28 M6 with I believe every other option.

Car is not stored at my house for the winter

The door has a plug with 4 wires(black, yellow, dark blue, light blue)

It has 6 speaker locations.

I bought some standard Camaro speakers but they have a different plug that has 2 wires. I don't recall having an amp when I removed the spare tire.

Did I buy the wrong speakers?

if these plastic panels have speakers then you ARE MOST DEFINITELY a monsoon system car.

Camaros with monsoon use what are called coaxially mounted components (component speakers but with the tweeter mounted to the woofer section) these have 4 wires 2 for the woofer and 2 for the tweeter, the speakers you bought side like they are your typical 2-way coaxial speakers (which only have the one positive and negative setup), you do NOT want to use those in place of components.

give this a good once thru https://ls1tech.com/forums/stereo-el...nsoon-faq.html thats what it is there for.

Really? The first paragraph was unclear?

So your Camaro would have option code UZ7 on the door label if it has a Monsoon system.

My 3rd sentence was unclear? My car isn't stored at my house and I have limited access to it during these cold months. I don't know what the door sticker says, but I know that my rear panels look like what was posted in this thread.

I would suggest next time your near the car to snap a picture of the RPO sticker and keep it on your computer for reference anytime you need to look something up, it was actually one of the first things I did.

Funny thing is that the panels look the same regardless if there are any speakers behind them. So just knowing what the panels look like won't help.

not sure what you mean by that, cars that are non-monsoon do NOT have speaker grilles in those panels and that is a rather large difference in the look in my book. That not to say someone couldn't have swapped monsoon hatch panels into the car, but if they are hooked up and functioning then it is a fair bet it's a monsoon system.

Currently the only speakers in the car that work are the hatch area speakers.

Ill get a pic next time I go out.

Is there a way to hook up non monsoon speakers to a monsoon system?

Good point. Sorry, I wasn't trying to be sarcastic - I seriously wanted to know if the FAQ wasn't clear enough. Even though the thread is now six years old and nothing has changed (since they aren't made anymore), I still try to tweak it every once in a while to ensure it has the best information available. I will add some information about only Monsoon systems having hatch area speakers for future reference.

Thank you for helping.

It would also be helpful to have a pic of the speaker plug for a monsoon and non monsoon speaker/car.

Your FAQ is pretty much all there on the internet for Monsoon related info.
