Default Suggestions for upgrades

I have a monsoon system in my 98 z coupe. i read the faq on monsoon, but honestly i dont understand it. I dont know any thing about stereos. My stereo now sounds ok, but it seems like sound is only coming out of the sail panels and way too much base. i turned the bass **** down and then i didnt really have much sound at all. I figured the door speakers were blown or something. Anyways can anyone tell me what headunit i should get and what speakers to get? Im not interested in a badass setup just something that sounds better than stock. Im going to take this to best buy and have them install it because im clueless on stereos. I wanted to spend under 500 if possible between the speakers and head unit. Thanks.

Kee Audio (member on this site) can set you up with everything you need within that budget. However, I would recommend that you DON'T take the car to BB for installation. They will try to tell you that you need to rip everything out and rewire. That is a common misconception about the Monsoon system among inexperienced installers. Actually, you can replace the head unit just as easily as you would a non-Monsoon system. The door speakers can be tricky to replace because of their unusual wiring but Ian (Kee Audio) has CDT speakers that are drop-in replacements for the factory ones.

Under five hundred can be done easily. Even with shipping!! I'd be glad to assist you on that!

If you're spending $500, you want an amp too. HU, amp, and front speakers. I don't know what Ian carriers for HUs, but I think the new Pio 4000 would be good. Get a cheap amp like Directed Xtreme or Powerbass that Ian has (though I have no experience with Powerbass, he says it's good on the cheap) and then you'll have plenty left for some nice speakers up front. You can even get some tweeter pods.

You dont need an amp

good headunit pushes 220 watts, and you dont need more than that man..

get a good Alpine, Pioneer, or Kenwood headunit
Some good Pioneer speakers

You are set man.

You do need an amp because the Monsoon system has its own crappy crossovers built in. And hahah to the 220 watts joke.
