I have a '80 malibu with a 350, very small cam, it runs 13.8 at 103 is the best I had it to. I say you have him beat unless he's got good motor work done. I had to upgrade my rear end to a posi trac haha, he most likely has a 1 legger.

I agree with millersta, I don't believe that you could get a 1980 Malibu with a 350 from the factory (could be wrong). If not then how fast he is will depend on what year and model vehicle his "stock 350" is from. That being said, I don't think that even the strongest running factory 350 will come anywhere close to a bolt-on LS1. Of course people rarely put powergildes behind stock motors...

Malibu's did not come stock with 350's, in fact, very few of them came stock with 305's.. most of them were v6's. I know some pretty fast street malibu's though that run 11's, but you can tell by looking/hearing it

Through 81 they were available with a 350, not that it did them much good:
81 = 229 V6 (110 hp), 231 (3.8 L) V6 (110 hp), 267 V8 (115 hp), 305 V8 (140 hp), 350 V8 (170 hp)
Definitely never a Powerglide though, in the 4th gen stuff. 3-speeds in auto and manual, and relatively rare 4-speeds.
They will hold almost anything under the hood, though, including big block Chevys, Buicks, Caddy 501's, Olds, etc. Lots of space for blowers, turbos and a fat FMIC.

I've always loved those 80s malibus. I'd love to single turbo a forged 347 in one of those. Every time I go to the track I see malibus running consistent times whether the car is fast or slow. Looks like a solid platform for a good drag car.

I surprised a beautiful one yesterday morning. It was bright orange with like a 6 inch cowl hood. It had drag light wheels and some big *** tach. Went from 10 to about 55 i guess. There was traffic ahead but i held his nose about a half a car behind me in that short burst. I have no idea what motor or mods. he had. But, it looked mean. I would say you got him.

That is one very clean looking malibu. But if it really has a 350 and a powerglide I think he is trying to dupe you. If it doesn't sound mean though, most likely it still doesn't stand a chance. I have heard of people running very quiet exhausts on purpose for the sleeper effect but it's very rare.
