Default '01 z28 vs. '05 GT

I was finally able to get in a few races against my coworker on our way home from work tonight. First the specs.

2005 Mustang GT 3v. 5spd. BBK Cai, Offroad X, Super 40 cat-back, Predator tuner

vs.

2001 z28. A4. Potz T.B, Lid, axle back muffler delete, shift kit.

Race 1: 15-20mph roll. He honked it and had the jump on me. Had a fender and a door on me from the start but only until he missed 3rd. I passed with the easy win.

Race 2: 10-15mph roll. He honked it off, and we were off. He had a fender on me near the top of second, but I closed that gap with his shift. When we lifted at 115 I was a half a fender ahead.

A few of my idiot ricer co-workers have been saying how he would mop the floor with me, while him and I have kept open minds. From my experience with mustangs(internet only) I figured it would be a great race and should be neck and neck. These races proved my point. We had one race prior....last week, where we did a 60-120 and were dead even the whole time.

Only other real race I've had was with a '06 GTO M6 from a dig when I only had my exhaust and shift kit. We were door to door.

Good races...my favorite kind where both parties are cool no matter who wins or loses.

Good runs. Always good to get a few runs with a basic equal. Close races seem to always be good races.

I didn't think it would be that close. I would walk my friends exhaust and intake 07' auto in my bolt on, 3.73 lt1.

Agree, that same LT1 ran an 8.4 with a dismal 2.1 60' in the 1/8, it had some grunt for sure.

Good kill OP. No races from a stop? The stock converter was not being friendly to you at those speeds.

My experience with the same model with my SS. A buddy of mine out here has a similar setup as the guy you raced with his 2007. We went out to Mexico one night and kicked it off a 40 roll. By the time we hit 100mph, he was an easy 1.5 cars back, closer to 2.

He's a friend of mine, so I wasn't going to give him any crap in front of our other friends. He ended up telling them himself saying he couldn't believe my car was stock (at the time it was down to a paper filter, I didn't even have a lid or the free ram-air mod done yet).

We were at the same dyno event a few weeks later and he put down 284rwhp (forget the torque number) to my 316rwhp/324rwtq. He was surprised my car put down that much but afterwards said he wasn't surprised by the outcome race anymore.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately the traffic in mexico didn't allow us to have any dig races. The car is still "new" to me, so I'm sure with time I will find the sweet spots for every thing

Good to have close races with friends. When you guys get more mods you can see exactly what they do for you.

Good runs OP. Close races between two slow cars is always more fun than blowouts between a slow car and a faster car.
