99 Z28 vs 95 Cobra
About a year ago I picked up my Hugger Orange Z28 as a commuter back and forth to college. Ever since then, a buddy of mine, a die hard Ford guy, has been making snide remarks about "walking my cute lil' Chevy". Every single weekend it's the same thing. Well... a few weeks back, he caught me in the right mood and pulled up next to me. "Ready for an *** whippin'?!" he yelled. I reply, "Nah, I'm ready to see how much slower your 4.9...err...FIVE-O is than it sounds." That got his panties in a wad and he said he wanted a 30 mph roll, so I honked, and gave him the hit. By 45 mph he was at my rear quarter panel, and once I hit 2nd around 55 mph (2.73s) he was a couple cars back. It was getting ugly fast so I let out, slowed down, and winked at him. His girlfriend, owner of a 3rd gen Formula currently under the knife for an LS1 swap, turned to him and said "I TOLD YOU SO!". To try and reclaim some dignity, he wanted to go again. It was worse the second time. We pulled over and he said that LS motors are "the one thing Chevy did right, I guess". To add insult to injury, I reminded him that even after those races, my car would still be getting 27 mpg on this tank of gas. He was a good sport and we laughed about it, but he certainly hasn't tried racing me again.
Now, my car is an auto with 2.73s, SLP lid, Dynomax bullet, and SFCs. I don't know about his other than it's a 5-speed with an intake, exhaust, and UDP. He previously claimed to "have a little internal work done", but it can't be much. I knew what the outcome would be from the start, but his persistence got the best of me. So let this be my disclaimer.... I realize my car is slow compared to everything on here. Not trying to claim it's anything that it's not. It's sole purpose now is DD-duty to save me money in gas and miles on my Rumble Bee. But that doesn't mean I can't toy with the uneducated and overconfident, right?

2 lengths is the best estimate I have from the quick glance I took right before letting out. I would honestly say 1 1/2 to 2 lengths is an accurate guess. He claimed to have spun so he may have just cut his loss at that point and let out?? Ahh well. It was all in good fun. And about the girlfriend, isn't that something? She talked a LOT of **** when we got parked too lol. I've been helping them locate parts for their build. All she needs to finish it is an accessory drive and then she'll be putting him in his place too.

I google random specs for the fun of it, so I knew roughly what he was pushing before he even started calling me out. But it wasn't until after he said he was pushing 300 that I said to myself, "Okay. We'll see about that." He also didn't know that LS1s were underrated....so he has definitely been under a rock. Good driver and good guy though. He's damn smart when it comes to his own stuff. Just a little too close-minded for his own good.
I loved that the ONE LS1 in my price range on craigslist was a Hugger. Bought it with 129k barely over a year ago. Already have way more in it than it's worth and I'm racking up the miles (20k this year)....but I guess that's all the more reason not to get rid of it, right?

Good kill dude. Those old Cobras are just snails with stripes on em. Just thank the lord it wasn't some stock mach shifting 500rpm past redline. You'd have had your goose cooked.

Thanks guys! I know it was an incredibly unfair race, but I couldn't convince him of that so I just had to show him. The Cobra owner used to have an 01 2V that was geared and tuned. Fastest street car in town. Ask him. He'll tell you. One of our other friends has a fox with a "built 302" in it. But the guy that helped him on it said they literally pulled the motor, cleaned it up, and put it back in. So I definitely hear you on the gasket comment lol.
I've lurked this section of LS1tech for quite some time and have grown a deep appreciation for the Mach1 jokes haha. I raced a friend's intake/exhaust 350Z last week and for some reason it blew everyone's mind that I beat him from 40-90. Why? Because he whipped the local Mach1. The 350Z even wanted the left lane so his passenger could record it. .......he wouldn't send me the video.

On a side note, good kill OP. I can't stand when people claim they are king **** with their cars, yet you know in the back of your mind they are not what they say they are.
