Default Third Gen Camaro (stock) Vs Bolton Drag radial M5 Mach1

Finally raced a mythical Mach 1. He got my Bone stock( ) third gen bye a fender from 0-120. Im having severe traction issues in first, as you can hear in the video, carb is hesitating and the trans is shifting to soon. This is the first night out with the car, so cut me some slack!

Here is the only other race I got in. We went from about a 10 roll. Couple of issues. We hit it and the carb stutters for about 1/4 second then lights, im in it and pulling ever so slightly and my exhaust blows off the headers. I let off momentarily and then get back in it but the trans had shifted into second and killed me because it was way to low rpm to make it a race, but I still stopped his pull and then we noticed the exhaust sparking and I let off. I blew my exhaust off twice lastnight, maybe there is a serious restriction?

Other Third Gen:
355CI with Twisted wedge aluminum heads and holley projection (Or the equivalent of)
Full boltons, weight reduction, no passenger and 4:30 rear gears and some suspension work, M5

What's your 3rd gen like?

We all know you made up this vid. A top fuel car would have problems staying that close to a Mack 1

So a sub 3000lb drag car with a 360"+ SBC, aluminum heads and a healthy cam can't keep up with a little 281" with intake/exhaust work?

Good run..
When I heard 3rd Gen, I knew it was not going to be good for the MACH.
I am actually surprised the MACH was able to keep up like it did.

Thanks guys lol. Like i said it was the first outing with the car. Carb is breaking up bad, trans is shifting to early even when i manually shift it and my first gear is useless. It just blows the tires off and then short shifts to second. Car needs alotta tuning still.

89 Camaro RS gutted 2,800-2,900 without me (hadmyself and a passenger for this race 200# each)
362ci sbc with 96' lt1 heads on it. only gasketmatched to the vic jr intake
650 holley dp carb
built 700r4 3,000 stall 3:73 gears
stainless 1 3/4 longtubes true dual flowmasters and x pipe

Like i said she needs some adjustments. To the guy calling it a turd, im happy as hell with the outcome. 100% stock suspensioned car, on street tires in 30* weather against a decent powered car with no passengers and dead hooking drag radials. Ok

Well I hope you get it sorted out for your next runs......that was a **** poor performance for all those mods. A old stock 350 with bolt-ons would perform at least as well as what you got at that weight.

Ya i know. You have no idea how bad this thing is running carb wise, and pedalling the **** out of it. Well get some adjustments made and some tires on it and try it out at the track. That mach 1 ran 13.0's @ 3,500 da on street tires for refrence

Toss your carb and go with a 750 to 850 Demon. Then MSD/Unilite/Taylor wires for ignition. Taylor wires a must because they are the only ones that 3rd gens don't seem to eat on a regular basis. Unilite over stock type HEI as HEI's like to eat modules with cam'd motors and wire routing is so much easier on a 3rd gen. MSD for obvious reasons (mount it under your passenger headlight on that hidden flat tray). Demon also for obvious reasons. So friggin what if it costs more, it's WELL spent funds. Trust me, I've got hundreds of hours tuning/building/dyno'ing Holley carbs. Demon's are ridiculous in how close to perfect there base settings are no matter what engine it goes on.

I believe your car has alot left in it.

But I gotta ask, did I cross your mind when you were running the Mach 1?
