Here's how the story goes...I ran this lighting earlier this year when it had just long tubes and exhaust and drag radials I beat it pretty bad then, over the summer he did quite a bit to it, cam, gears, stall, pulley and ported blower last month he got it running made 426whp and over 500ftlbs and since then has been trying to race me and putting on facebook that I was avoiding him (which i wasnt just never cared to run my car against anyone anymore in the stock condition it's in now) so Saturday night he called me out on this Facebook group I said **** it lets do it last night we did it up...2 runs both 35ish- about 115ish. ..2nd run I missed 2nd some how but got it back in....

lightnings were cool. I remember running a pully'd\tuned one in my old 87 4x4 chevy. we were dead even. those were fun times.

Most of us know that, I run 2nd gear for 45-55(tops). And besides, I thought you hated rolls

Do you have anything done to your car? Something is off here, either he is lying about his mods and numbers, or your car is modded. With those mods and power numbers, he should be in the mid-high 12's, your car should be high 12's. I can see you beating him on the clean run, but no way on the run where you missed 2nd. From the looks of that video, his truck is close to stock.

I get the feeling that he slapped a pulley on it and began talking ****, hoping that you wouldn't bite.

What did you have done to the 87? I like those trucks, I used to have an 87 long bed.

his stall sucked if you paid attention to the shifts, and how exactly is a truck that only has around 100 hp more but weighs 2000 pounds more supposed to fair in a race?

From watchin these vids most don't. Look how many 40 rolls we see with the guy in 2nd. Look at you....only wanting to do 2nd gear @ 55(tops). You would lose to someone like me that run 2nd to 65mph. Dat hit be like

I don't like bakery racing.....but I don't mind 1st gear rolls.

Lol ya I was hoping to go from a dig but he wanted the roll at a 30 or 35 I'm probably around 3500rpms so the car is right in its sweet spot lol

My car is stock...he had dyno sheets and videos of the truck on the rollers..my car also traps 108mph in the 1/4 that should be plenty for a mid to high 12 sec pass

I had a 406 with vic jr heads, full roller valvetrain and 4:10's. thing would boogie for a heavy truck.

Lightnings are cool, just too heavy and slow. OP, even though your car is still quicker, did you guys get a run in without you taking the hit? Don't know about everyone else, I might be wrong but I clearly heard two honks but not a three before take off.

There was 3 honks, I asked him if he could hear my horn before the 2nd one he said ya. It's just hard to hear since his exhaust is pointed right at the camera lol we take off at the same time tho.

I'm not sure what the gear ratio is on the '14 5.0, but I did a 55 roll with my friend in his stang and he got walked because he hit the rev limiter almost instantly

Those trucks can be fairly nasty and are more like 1200lbs heavier than the firebird.


In stock condition, those trucks put down anywhere from 330-360RWP and ran anywhere from 13.9-14.5@98ish. They can run high 12's with a tire, tune, pulley, and exhaust. Either he blew his tires off, his truck isn't set up worth a ****, or he is lying.

Those are cool trucks. There are a few locally that are more consistent and quicker than Cobras with similar mods.
