Raced an '05 GTO
I was in the right hand side of a double left turn lane going onto a one way and a silver GTO pulls up to me. He had a passenger with him but neither of them seemed to acknowledge me being there. We turned left onto the one way and I noticed it was an '05 by the 6.0 emblem. We were pretty much in the middle of town so I wasnt really thinking of trying to race. He was ahead of me a little ways but I crept up on him just to roll along, maybe tell him he's got a nice car. When I was along side him I could hear him giving the throttle little pokes, not enough to make it downshift(A4) but noticeable little surges. I saw a clear stretch of straight road ahead so I was like "why not". I put it in second (maybe a 40 roll) and gave him some "little surges" of my own. I heard him step on it so I went WOT and walked by him quick. I let off pretty quick though (in town) and he went by me. The light ahead was red so I figured we'd do a dig. But it went green before I got there so I put it in second again and rolled up to him. Once again as soon as I heard his engine get up I punched it (again 40-45 roll) pulled by him again and had a length between us, banged 3rd and pulled out a little more distance (not alot though since I had to get out of it shortly after shifting). He came along side and his passenger had kind of a salty smile on his face. The driver asked what I had done I told him, "A little exhaust, just a cat-back. And an airlid." He said "that's exactly what I need." I was thinking Ok but you cant use an airlid on your car. Then he asked if I had a 350, I said "Yeah, I've got the LS1. You've got the LS2." Then he said something about how K&N needs to catch up with the GTO's or something, I didnt hear everything. He obviously doesnt have car knowledge, I heard he was messing with the local '04 cobra (CAI/pulley/ORH/tune/small shot) now THAT would have been murder! I figure I'd post this since the only other time I posted in here was a death in my old '96 SC riviera. Thanks for reading.

stock for stock a 05 gto will beat a 98-2002 ls1 with equal drivers, and 308hp is very low for a ls2, most have dynoed around 325-345.
i have raced 3 ls1 so far 2 z28's and 1 ss, lost to the z28 because i missed 3rd and he didn't wanna go again

But dont' GTO's have independent rear suspension? That'll eat up more horses compared to our solid rear axles, which is why we typically dyno a few RWHP more than LS1 Corvettes.
I can see an '05 GTO A4 dynoing around 325-335 if it was on a Mustang dyno, but 308... damn that's horrible. 15% drivetrain loss would put an '05 at around 350 RWHP on a DynoJet.

and you know gm would get creamed if its 400hp ls2 motor made only 350
ls1's with bolt ons are quite a match for any stock 05gto as well as stock cobra's, but stock for stock or just an intake, i'll put my money on the 05 gto

If the car I raced was an M6 it would have been close. I think stock '05 GTO vs lid/catback LS1 F-body is a drivers race. Let's not forget that GTO's can be quite the little piggies. I think IRS and an couple hundred extra pounds will even out the hp advantage.
I dont know about that 308 rwhp dyno, that's horrid. There could have been any number of things going on though, it could have been pulling timing for some reason.
Chris, it was a silver '05 and had GTO 1 on the plates. You'll probably see him around I raced him on welcome way.
If your referring to me. I dont consider lid/catback bolt ons, I consider them necessities! With full bolt ons the LS1 F-bod will beat the stock '05 GTO all day long. As long as it's still stock.
