My '99 Trans Am (Cam + Stall) vs. '03 Cobra, Do These Results Sound Right?
I have a stock weight '99 Trans Am with the old MTI T1 cam (221/221 .558/.558 112) along with a TCI 4000 stall and 3.42s. Still running the LS1 intake and have Pacesetter longtubes and TSP true duals.
I ran an '03 Cobra the other day. I passed by as he was waiting to turn onto the main road. He gets out on the road and quickly comes up on me. It didn't take long and we were into it. From a 60 roll, up to 110 MPH, I pulled him by two cars. Just wondering if that sounds about right? I haven't been to the track since these mods, my car was still shifting at 6000 on the stock shift tables, and no other tuning on my car. He was stock I'm sure (not alot of guys in the area I live in mod their cars).

Does sound odd but anythign can happen. How much power are the T1's supposed to add? I really dont see how you would have the power with jsut a cam adn exhaust to beat a 03 that bad. I aint knockin ya car at all but they do make 380 hp right out of the box. They are heavier but it would still take like 420 horse to beat him that bad. If not more. Good kill BTW!!

Not all of 'em make 380 RWHP stock. I've seen some around 360 so it's could've happened. These things can be a biotch to drive stock, what with the stock POS shifter. The car could've needed a driver mod too. Anything can happen on the street. Good kill on the Snake.

Doesn't sound too far off. When I had stock h/c (about 340 rwhp), I took an 04 in the 1/4 mile by two cars (2 runs), and he WAS NOT stock then. And I had a passenger. If he is stock, and you have a cam and TC that big, then the outcome sounds about right. You would be putting down at least 25 rwhp more than me at that time.

Let me say that my old LS1 Z28 had a little T1 cam in it and I beat more than one 03+ Cobra. Some were at the dragway and one or 2 elsewhere. Anything can happen on the road though.
Put the LS6 intake and TB and get a nice boost in power across the board.
MTI/Lunati T1/B1 cams are super steetable cams IMO.

I do have a ported throttle body also, forgot to mention that. As an estimate, just judging by my past track times, the car should now go 12.2-12.4 and trap 110-112 MPH. Not sure what the new Cobras are running but thats where my car would stack up for comparison's sake (think I heard they ran 110 in the 1/4, which would be about right with my results from the race and an average driver in the Cobra). That is just based on my estimate though. Plenty of cars close to my weight, with slightly bigger cams and slightly bigger stalls running 115+ in the 1/4. It was definitely a good little race. The guy wasn't happy about loosing though. I gave him a thumbs up and a wave and he was having no part of that.

I don't see the why you are doubting your kill. Your car with a good tune is a 11.80-90 capable car. That is more than enough to put 2+ cars on a stock cobra. The fact the only put 2 on him leads me to believe that he was a descent driver.

Also, only a 50 mph race starting at 60 mph is a very short sprint; probably would have added to the gap if they went a little faster

Had to let out due to traffic. Initially I was barely pulling on him (this might have been his manual vs. my auto here as he was already in gear), but once my car got up into the power I started slowly but steadily pulling away. We had to get out of it because we were coming up on some cars. Safety first of course.

A cammed LS1 with long tubes is making over 400 at the crank. You've got a high stall to keep you in your power band, and you weigh less than the cobra. I think you did pretty good for yourself. Your car should be capable of 11.8x's (at least) in good weather, assuming you can hook.
