What makes you think Firehawks are faster than Z28s?? An LS1 is an LS1 is an LS1. I think the fastest recorded time on an LS1 f body was in a Z28, not a Firehawk or WS6 or SS.

Cause the motor on firehawks dont break in till about 22000 or so due to the intakes ...ive seen them with less then 4k run like 14 and then ones with 25k or so run high 12s low 13s and both stock...and nothin against Z's just the lack of HP off the lot compared to a firehawk

Oh jesus. Who has been feeding you this line of ****?? Believe me when I tell you a Z28 and a Firehawk are not different and is a drivers race when both stock. They both are the same damn car. I know SLP takes them and they do the same thing to them they do to an SS. Ive been outdynoed by a Z28 in my SS and I outdynoed a Firehawk at a dynoday when were all stock.

Ok listen to this, a Corvette has an LS1. A Camaro has an LS1, a Trans Am has an LS1. Now they all have the same motor but GM doesnt want people to not buy Corvettes when they can buy Camaros and get the same Hp so they rate a Vette at its normal HP and under rate a Camaro and Trans Am so it wont have the same HP. Now peoplw, like you, buy into this and think they are getting 40 more hp when the cars really dyno the same. But wait we can make even more money if we make "special" editions of the Camaro and Trans Am. We will give them a different hood, suspension, and exhaust and rate the HP higher than thew normal cars and everyone, you, will buy into it and pay more for one than they were in the first place. Now I have owned an F body since 1998 and am on my third one since then. Believe me when I tell you than Corvettes, Z28s, SSs, Formulas, Trans Ams, WS6s, Firehawks all put out roughly the same HP. Of course all LS1s got some improving parts in 2001 and up and they are capable of making A LITTLE more power but not that much, maybe 10 over the others. And its not uncommon for a regular old Z28 to make more power and be faster than the big bad and mighty Firehawk.

Im actually searching for the article where they dyno a 305 HP rated Formula against a 345 HP rated Corvette and not only did the Formula dyno really close to the Vette it dynoed more than the Vette by a few. I am having trouble locating the article though.

Oh wow! This does not make any sense and is not even true. Just when I thought I'd heard it all.

Honestly man, the advetised numbers really dont mean a whole hell of a lot. They are the same engine, they just jacked up the numbers so that people, similar to yourself, would actually believe that the engine was 40hp more. By all means the Firehawk is nicer and more collectable than the z28, but performance-wise the only thing that the firehawk has over the z28 is a more free flowing exhaust and a sort-functional ram air system, which does not come close to equaling 40hp. Its kinda like the mustang gt and the stage 1 roush, the only real difference performance-wise is the exhaust system, thats about it.

im so happy you typed this up so i didnt have to, this thread was left wide open to those sort of stupid comments...

and to those of you who made the completely irrelivent and idiotic comments

there is nothing stopping my factory rated 305hp trans am from making more power at the wheels than any of the 345hp "rated" SS's and Firehawks..

im guessing the next comment will be how the 'ram-air' makes so much power...

read sig, if u take that seriously or u actually beleive that statement.
u have a lot of learning to do, and need not beleive everything your told.

Exactly, the corvette is "rated" from the factory as 345 or 350 hp, yet under most circumstances it dynos less than the f-bodies (although this is due to the irs in the vette). The vette makes up for it though in being lighter weight but its still an LS1 under the hood. Its all advertising. GM will obviously list the firehawk and the vette higher than the base z28 because they want people to think that they are getting a much faster car for the money, but thats not the case. In any event, I think it will be a drivers race between the firehawk and z28, with the z28 edging the hawk out if both drivers are equal.
