'90 ProCharged LX
On the way home from the dentist today, a white '90 LX Mustang came up alongside and gave me a few revs. Two lanes and no traffic so I replied with a blip or two We made one short run from a 30 mph roll to about 70 and I was down 1 car and gaining nothing He asked me to pull over and we ended up talking for 45+ minutes. Anyway, '90 LX, M5, stock 3.08 gears, with nothing but exhaust and ProCharger at 10 psi. He said stock dyno run was 190 hp and post-blower was 400 hp. To make it even worse, he said he was in only $3k for the blower. The 100+% increase in hp was substantially more than I would have expected...is that typical for the 5.0? I know those year Mustangs can be made fast for not a lot of $$$. He had a tremendous respect for the LS1 and gave me nothing but on my WS6. Very cool guy and all but it still made me want to put mine back under the cover in the garage and leave it until I have $8k set aside for the new 12-bolt and ATI

A typical 5.0 will dyno around 190ish rwhp (sometimes more) and with 6psi they put down around 300ish rwhp and about 330lb/tq. 400 rwhp sounds VERY realistic with 10PSI. a 6 psi kit can be had for a 5.0 for around $2,000 that would net about 300 rwhp and around 330 tq for a bone stock 5.0. You can rest assured though, that his T5 hates him. At any rate, yeah, for the 2-5K (depending on car/negotiaton skills) you can get a 5.0 and 2-3K later have a low 12 second car.

87 had the most hp, ford did little things (cam revision, etc. etc.) through the years until 93 which slowly lopped small amounts of hp off. the 94/95 cars had a revised ECU which was VERY mod UN-friendly and not NEARLY as agressive with timing (it also killed timing between shifts on the T5 cars to save the tranny). Hence, an 87 SHOULD out-dyno a 94-95, even though the 94-95 had electric fans, all the junk they "revised" makes up the difference. an 87-93 5.0 should dyno 185-200 with a 5-speed. A 94-95 should be close to the same, maybe more, maybe less, maintenance would play a bigger role than the 2 setups differences would.

EDIT, ok did some research, 87 was the first year for the 225hp. Bigger TB, etc. Found a good link for general information.

The 94-95 ECU can be tuned for a set-up, but not for mod acceptance, AKA, you can have it "Tuned" like any chip, but it adjusts fuel curves on a load sensing basis, the 89-93 computers bases it purely off of RPMS/MAF readings. It is a different system. So the 94/95 hatred for mods cannot be tuned out, but it can be tuned for a combo, As can the 89-93. BTW, all of my below mods are with a STOCK TUNE A9L and it runs VERY well.

That sounds about right if he was truly putting down 400 to the wheels. You "should" be putting down close to, or around the same. His car is lighter though, so the race makes sense.
Sounds like it was fun...

I'd say with all the little things like exhaust, tb, maf etc....400rwhp is doable with the Prochrager..I think they come with an intercooler too.
I'd say with a gear and tires his car would be capable of mid 11's....with a few more things(ported intake, cam, little weight reduction) maybe low 11's???

I was at 360 rwhp w/out the 3.73s and difficulty with the converter on the dyno.
Yes, the ProCharger was intercooled...he had it mounted down low in front of the radiator. He was on 15" wheels with 265 series street tires.
COMNBYU, great handle Is that your license plate?
