LT1 vs WRX
Last night I was just cruising (listening to my new homemade system that SLAMS!!) and a white WRX (non STi) pulls up next to me. We talk for a sec and head out to a backroad where no one is ever on to line em up.
On the way there he lines up with me at about 65 mph. I take the hit and we're off. I pulled about 3 cars on him to 120ish mph where we shut down.
We line up and my friend flags the start. I spin bad for the first 60 ft, fishtailing and he pulls me pretty hard with his AWD. He had about 3 car lengths before I caught traction and we were dead even and we shut down at about 110.
On the other end of the road we decided to go from a roll so I could get traction. We go from a 20 roll and I take the punch again. I spin a little bit, but it's alot more controllable. I started pulling pretty good, had about 3 cars on him at 90 or so. I was in the suicide lane and a car was coming so we shut down and I pulled in infront of him.
We stopped and talked for about 45 minutes afterward, he had two friends with him (both cars only had drivers for the last two races) and I had my boy. We talked cars and I asked him his mods. He said he had a turbo timer, boost controller running 14 psi, exhaust (didnt specify headers back or just catback) and a few other minor things. He said it had 380 fwhp, I don't think so though, or he lost a LOT through the drivetrain. My mods are listed in my sig, but basically a catback, 4.10s and free mods.
Cliff notes: bolt on LT1 goes 2-1 against bolt on AWD WRX. Traction sucks with 4.10s

Ya that might be 280fwhp, they only put out 227 stock. The stock turbo can't put out that much power. I'd be real hesistant to believe someone putting out over 300 on the stocker.

I think he might be pulling your chain. Stock boost is at about 14 consistently. When I had my WRX, I had a MBC at 17psi. that is what you put it at, right before fuel cut. The exhaust part I cannot comment on. With your mods, it sounds like he was pretty much stock. He might have had a axelback or catback but if he had a boost controller, full exhaust, it would have been alot closer from a roll. But good kill and sounds like he was a cool guy.

Yeah he didn't seem to know alot about his car. He knew more about 80's camaros rofl
Maybe he was just misinformed, he seemed like a really cool guy. It turned out he lives about 2 minutes from my house.
His exhaust was really loud - sounded like a straight through system, and his turbo was pretty loud, could definetly hear it. I asked him how much boost he was pushing and he said "about 14 pounds, nothing special." I think he might have been yanking my chain, he told me he whooped on STi's and EVOs all day long. I doubt it.
He probably was pretty much stock, I pulled him pretty damn hard. What do they trap stock?

My cousin's wrx dynoed at just over 300 to all 4 and he's done trurbo swap, full exhuast, and boosted up to 18lbs (only major things i can remember now) Thats just a basic outline of the extent these WRX's have to go to, to hit 300+whp. Theres no way he's beating STI's and EVO's. Sounds like he's just misinformed, like he bought the car used and was fed alotta crap by the previous owner. Hopefully he finds the Scooby boards and sets himself straight.

Two years ago when i had my 04' WRX (before it got totaled) i had an AEM cold air intake, full turbo XS exhaust (including the up-pipe, 4in downpipe and race pipe), and their manual boost controller set at 17psi (which stated before is all the higher the stock computer will let you go without fuel cut out)...the best time i could muster up was a 13.6 at 100 mph...it was decently quick...beat a few Mustang GT's and one LS1 camaro (driver obviously couldnt drive his car)...the only way to launch that turd was let it bounce off the rev limiter and drop it...it made one hell of an ugly bang sound inside the car...kinda sounded like driveshaft smacking the bottom of the car when you dropped the clutch at 7000 rpms...but it took off like a bullet...on a stock turbo your really putting it on its last leg at or around 20psi...it was a fun little car miss it sometimes...OK I'LL SHUT UP NOW!!!!

From what my friend told me unless you launch the manual wrx really high they don't run too good. His best was only a 14.8 with CIA, downpipe, uppipe, cat removal, and a catback. THen again it's an 03 and only has 8000 miles on it.
My friend's automatic WRX with some mods and some extra boost is running low 14s.

On these things, you modulate your launch in accordance with a boost build (at the upswing of a rev, higher up than 4K rpm). A clutch dump at 5 to 7K is less effective and more harmful to the tranny.

Best I could do was 15.3 @89 at 5800 ft altitude. 2004 WRX Wagon 5-speed, stock. Corrects to a 14.8. The WRX's are not drag cars.
Not to get off topic, but my WRX is my slowest car, and I have taken the Z06 snowboarding in the mtns before I got my WRX. You should see the looks you get when you and your girl pull two snowboards out of the Zo6 at the slopes...Funny thing was that I parked behind a 01 speedway white Z06 in the parking lot too, and there was 4 inches of snow that day. Nothin the F1's can't handle, barely.
