Default Viper vs. M3 vs. SS

Today I was driving to work from my g/f's (hour and 45 minutes) when I stumbled upon a viper getting off at my exit. I followed him and he let me get next to him. I looked over and it was the guy from R&T performance in town. It was his personal viper and he asked me if I wanted to go for it. He honked 3 times and I nailed it he got me by almost a full car length up to 70mph from a 30mph roll. So we are both crusin next to each other in town when an M3 pulls out from the dealership. He takes off and the viper quickly follows. I figured what the hell and took off and caught up to them. This is a main road off the interstate so it was 3 lanes wide on either side. I was on the far left, then the viper and the M3. I see the M3 start pulling so me and the viper both took off. Of course the viper got me again by a car and the M3 was very close behind in fact probably only half a car or so behind me! We started at a 40mph roll and ran to almost 90 mph. So I guess I got beat by the viper but I beat the M3. The M3 was an older model probably early-mid 90's. I've never tried either one of these cars before but I was more impressed by the M3. I didn't think that it would be able to run with me and the viper but it deffinately wasn't slow. What do the mid-90's M3's do in the quarter? And does anyone know what looked like a 97 viper runs in the quarter? It didn't say SRT-10 or anything specail on it so I'm guessing it was just a plain ole viper?

The first M3's would run around 14.3 in the 1/4 and made 240 horse. New M3's make 333hp and run 13.3's in the 1/4. The Viper if it was a 96-97 would run 12.1-12.4. Viper's came in a couple of models, vert rt10(400hp early 90's low 13's hi 12's 1/4, 450hp mid/late 90's), hard top GTS(450 hp) and an ACR(460hp track model). Good runs either way and if that M3 was an early model he definately had some upgrades, probablly a power adder

Hmm, not a lot of this makes sense and it makes it harder without knowing anything other than your car is an SS. What year? is it modded?

I'm going to assume you have a stock LS1 SS M6. If so I'd think that had to have been one of the slower earlier model Vipers, b/c the 96-97 should pull on you alot more than that. Now the really confusing part is this M3. The E36 M's as ls1-SS pointed out are not that strong and you should have dusted him by a lot more than 1/2 car and the Viper should have definitely pulled alot more than 1 1/2 car! That should be an absolute slaughter. Yeah that M3 had to be FI, but i still can't figure out how you hung so well with the Viper unless it was a bone stock earlier model. Which brings me to another thought...if the guy owned a performance shop I'd be hard pressed to think the Viper was stock.

The viper was a hardtop early model viper with 2 single white stripes running down it(don't know if they made a specail viper with a dress up kit), but I thought the viper came out in 96-97 so I assumed it was that year. It deffinately looked old. And Yes I have a 2002 SS with Magnaflow Cat-back but other than that its pretty much stock. The M3 like I said pulled right out of the dealership so it was probably a newer model but it deffinately did not look brand new.

The viper you ran was a GTS which made 450 hp stock and would run 12.1-12.4 in the 1/4. Viper first year was, I believe in 1990, it was available as a vert only till 1996 when they came out with the GTS then you could get either a rt/10(vert) or the GTS.

92 was first year for production of the viper. the 1990 was a concept.

I found a pic and info on the viper I raced except the one I ran against was red, it was a 1992 with 415 BHP and it was said to run the quarter in 13.1 @ 109mph

The M3 I raced was very similar to this one...

I'm guessing it was a 2000?? If so it runs the quarter in 13.2 @ 108 mph with 333bhp

your story is not possible... first off, the GTS model, which you have pictured was made from 1996-2002. there was no 1992 model. you have your info wrong. 1992 was the first year, and ONLY RT/10's were made...

also, im not calling you a liar, im just saying you have your model years mixed up as there is no 415hp GTS viper, only 450 and the new 06 500hp viper.

All the pics I got were off yahoo images. I typed in 1992 Viper and thats what popped up so if I had the wrong pic or info i'm sorry as thats not my intention. The info was directly from a website about the 92 viper. Here is the link I got my info from

na, that site is misleading... the hardtop(GTS) was only 96-02 and had 450hp. i can believe you raced and somewhat kept up with a rt/10 from 92, those things were turds.

The picture you posted of the M3 is a newer E46 M3 (333hp). Ok, if it was the first year RT-10 Viper and a newer M3, than it all makes sense. The old 92 viper, your car and a new M3 would all be a very close match up. Not sure why you originally said the M3 looked older?

I dunno, I misjudged the year on the M3. My buddy is always talking about the new M3 as in 06 etc... and I haven't really got a good time line on BWM's etc...I don't pay much attention to that market.

Another m3 goes down. I yanked one a few days ago from a 50 roll. In his cars' defense he didn't know how to drive. I think he started in the wrong gear or something. Those cars are rather quick.

I would say your race makes sense. E46 M3 vs 02 SS and a 92 Viper RT-10. The outcome sounds about right.
