Default 7.90 car vs me in my 5.0

Ok, I have a 89 coupe that weighs 2650 with me in it. Car runs 7.01 all motor. It has 4.30 gears and will pull the qtr mile. I have a guy wanting to race me in a full weight, 78 malibu w/ a 383 stroker that runs 7.9s with a 150 shot. In your opinion what should be the outcome of this? I will also be spraying a 100 shot to my motor in this race just to be safe......He didnt say 7.9s, several others have seen him run and its a junk, thrown together car. Even the trans is slipping.

You run close to a full second faster than him without the 100 shot. Why are you even worried? Shouldnt even be close.

well the 383 could easily handle more nitrous, but he's gonna need some serious traction. if it's "junk" then he might just break something. if you can pull 7's all day then I would run him.

I figured it should be an easy win, just need some encouragement. I hear his car hooks pretty good, mine doesnt. I planned on letting some air out of my air bag to get some weight transfer and maybe help it hook. I also planned on not spraying till its needed, if its needed. This boy has already said he dont mind scattering his combo all over. He has his confidence up cause he beat a trailered Camaro race car one night ,and he feels invincible. The trailered Camaro spun badly, or else he would have won.

Your car doesnt hook very well? 1.46 60ft time seems to be doing some good hooking. I would be happy if I could get under the 2.00 mark. Waste him and post up about it.

waste it. I hate junked cars, just not smart. They always break when $ is on the line.

Yeah, it got a 1.46 at the track...but on the street, well, thats a whole new ball game. If I could get it pretty sticky, then it should be fine, even if I spin a little I fell ok about it.

Is this a street race or on the track? With your spray I'd say you'd be in the 6.70's easily. Just make sure you cut a good light and make him beat you and not beat yourself. 1.4 60fts I don't think you have a prob with traction. put some lifting weighs in the spare tire well to help traction if you want. -Mark

All Street race....no track here. This boy wont take it to the track. I am hoping it would hook good enough to cut a 1.76 60ft on the street. The track, its fine, hooks awesome.. May try some weight back there.

Well, it was a very easy win....only used juice in 2nd gear. I tried it at the track Sat nite and screwed up my shifts, I skipped 2nd gear and went directly to 3rd, hit the juice and still went 6.95 @99.77 mph. I now have a wot switch to use instead of pushing a button. I feel like 6.7s maybe even a 6.6 will be easy. May try a 200 shot before winter.....it was built for it.
