Default SSR vs. Z28?

A couple guys here at work wanna race this weekend, one of them has a stock SSR with the 6.0 v-8 which I believe is 390-400BHP, and the other has a Z28 all stock.

I think the win would go to the Z because of weight but would the extra 75 or so horse five the SSR the win?

discuss...

I looked on the web real quick and the SSR runs a 15.3@ 88.4mph...thats slow as dirt...Even the SSR specail package with the 600HP 427 only runs a 14.4@99.7 mph...thats extremly slow. I looked up weight and etc... and the SSR weighs 4760lbs! thats why. If they made a hard top non-convertible version i'm sure it would cut 600lbs and make things more even.

SSR's are SUV's with a curvy body, they're huge in person. they are not at all designed to be quick. the camaro is. it will kill it, driver mod not even a question.

Ive never seen one run at the track...

BUT......

My magazines all say 13.9 or so for the 390 bhp 6.0 SSR....

According to Motor Trend the 2004 300 HP SSR did 0-60 mph in 7.4 and the 1/4 mile in 15.3 at 88.5 mph......Respectable for a truck but would be killed by an F body...

But according to Motor Trend the 2005 SSR with 390 HP and 405 tq ran 0-60 mph in 5.6 and the 1/4 mile in 13.9 at 102.2 mph...

Those numbers are more than enough to give an a4 with the highway gears Fbody a run for it's money....

Look at the mph of 102....

Thats worth more than 13.9...

My 2.73 a4 C5 ran mid 13's stock trapping only 102-103 mph here in Hawaii...

My friends supercharged 6.0 SS silverado with 450 rwhp and a weight of 5,300 pounds ran 13.9's at only 98 mph here in Hawaii...

102 mph is what the typical base geared a4 Fbod will trap on a good track...

Id say on the freeway it would give an a4 with the base gears a run for it's money....

i dont think the ssr will pull 13s....mid-high 14s maybe. the weight is absurd. putting the ls2 helps out a lot. and the manual tranny's get a 9.x inch rear end so they could put on fat slicks (probably). upgrading to the ls2 was good, next mod is cutting some serious weight off of it, and then it will run good

but i think they look good

Are you talking ls1 or lt1 z28. Ls1 have around 350 engine or so and that makes it much closer. Lt1 have more like their rated power.Auto car will be slightly slower than a stick usually for mph but think the z28 if ls1 would win.And since this is ls1tech assume its an ls1 z28. Any mods against stock ssr should be even easier win for the z28.But anything can happen in a real world race and the ls1 are not easy to launch..talking the m6 cars..bog or spin is the norm. That heavy truck might have an advantage launching. Not sure haven't raced many trucks off the line.

You have to remember on ething about the magazine's...They are tested on prepped tracks, professional driver's in dayum near perfect conditions....For a normal driver(Unless he is that good) most will not see those kinda number's....

The SSR is a small truck with alot of weight...4700 and osme change compared to our 34and some cahnge.....Should be an easy kill....stock or not.....But then again, ya never know if he got a bottle or not?
