Default You Guys Are Not Going To Believe This, GT500 Kill!!!

Hey guys not even about 45 mins ago I had took my Cobra out just for a spin and grab something to eat from the local gas stattion. Well as I came to a red light guess whats ****** comes up to me, a Shelby GT500!!!! I look at it as it is red and so is my car. The guy in his early 30's looks over and revs. I then almost cream my pants as I know Im going to race a GT500, I then close the cap on my Pepsi and set it down. I rev up my car and it draws attention from a local parking lot with some people in it and they rush over to the side to watch. I see the opposing light turn yellow and I rev up to 2800 or so and wait for the green. The light turns green and we both go for it. I take off soooo perfect and jump easily 2 cars on him because of the DR's and start a slight pull. I hit 2nd and he is about 3 cars back and in middle of 2nd it stays about the same until the end of 2nd where it lookes likes he might have gained about half a car back. We then had to stop because of the light. I then take off slowly so he can catch up to get a convo with him. I tell him nice car man and he then replys you got a nice and fast car man. He then asks what I have and i tell him i/e and DR's out back. He then was like no wonder you jumped out so good and I start laughing. He then told me that he already has 1300 miles on it because he has already taken two 300 mile round trips in it. He was very impressed with my car though. I just cant believe I raced one tho. I came home and told everyone. (I think I'm having a good week or something)

Sweet bro, I would love to come across one myself. So how do you think the GT500 stack up against a Terminator? From your story it sounds like their pretty evenly matched. Good Kill.

Those Cobra's respond so well to bolt ons and DR's.

I didn't like the new GT500's until I seen a black one with white stripes.
It sounds like you held him off pretty good, but I would imagine he would start pulling you once he got hook.

Good enthusiasm, I could feel you where pumped up! Those are the best kind of races.

That sounds right. Those Gt500's are pigs. I kind of figured a terminator would be able to hold it's own with one of them. Nice Kill!

I personally like the Terminator better. As for being stacked against a GT500, the GT500 weighs a little bit too much but Im sure as they start getting modded it will be different. But I do think the Terminators will hold their own against the GT500's. But now Im gonna wait until I get my WS6 going and put a 2.8 KB on the Cobra to make sure Im not losing to any GT500's around here

Kinda sad that the 03-04 Cobras now seem more practical then the new GT500. That car is WAY heavy. You can pull 300lbs out of Terminator with a live axle swap and a few choice changes but if you are starting off with 3900lb, you got some work to do.

Even from an 06 Mustang owner, I'll admit the GT500 isn't what it's cracked up to be. They're looking at not even being able to take a stock c6, which is pretty pathetic considering the outrageous markup on them. In time they will come back down to sticker price, and a lot of you guys will still hate on them, but at sticker, they aren't THAT slow... Maybe slow for the money, but the car is more for the enthusiast than the guy who wants major work done.

A GT with the same amount of cash put into it will put buslengths on a GT500.

Regardless, I'm jealous, I haven't even seen one in person, all the damn Ford dealerships around here only have Ford GT's ($160,000 doesn't seem practical, go figure ) .

^^^^

Talk about mark up, they have one here at my dealership and they marked it up $40,000. Also to add insult to injury, the car is chorded off and the closest you can get to it is about 5 feet. F'n dealerships!

I dont like the wieght either, but with those kinds of cubes and a blower and a live axle stock, I see them being plenty mean with the same mods as a Terminator. And while that weight does suck, it might make for a really nasty launch if you use DRs and get that weight transfered well in the first moments.

Think about it. 500WHP is pretty stupid easy on a Terminator. Give it over 15% more displacement and a larger blower I'm sure and you have cars that make 600WHP on BPU type mods.

Then again, they might be bought up by collectors and rich people who leave them stock.

there's not enough weight difference between a gt500 and a terminator to make up the power difference stock for stock despite what people like to say about the weight of the gt500s.

nice run. i would like to see how it would turn out with just the i/e, no DRs.

2007 shelby gt500 coupe
curb weight: 3920 lbs
power: 500hp/480tq
http://www.edmunds.com/new/2007/ford...535/specs.html

2003 svt cobra coupe
curb weight: 3665 lbs.
power: 390hp/390tq
http://www.edmunds.com/used/2003/for...01/prices.html

weight difference: cobra is 255lbs. lighter
power difference: gt500 has 110 more hp/90 more tq.

as you can see, stock for stock the gt500 should still win.

Very good kill! I'd take the 03/04 over the GT500 any day. As for the new mustangs in general, I really like the front end on them, but don't like the back at all. That's just preference though.
