Default STOCK 88 Monte SS -vs- 05/06 GTO...

NEEDLESS to say, my SS got literally smoked, but this should make you LS1 guys feel great... So I have a stock 88 Monte SS, 305, 180-190HP, 225-235 ft/lbs torque blah blah blah...it IS pretty quick in its own right, but the other day Im sittin on a main busy street in Puyallup, Wash...2 lanes each way with a turn lane in the middle. There is a BAD 05/06 Silver GTO with aftermarket exhaust sitting in the left turn lane in the lane to my left. I thought I'd be funny and punch it a little off the line so this guy would get a good chuckle, wellll THIS guy decided he was gonna smoke me off the line and get in my lane. I probably got on the throttle 3/4 of the way which will actually put you back in the seat pretty well, the GTO floored it and was honestly thru the intersection and in front of me and I was 1/4 thru the light...FAST car! The moral to my story, and what should make you guys feel good, Ive raced 87-04 Mustang GTs before with my SS, and for the first block and a half it is surprisingly even, until my 305 is out of breath, BUT with this GTO there was NO even part in the story...you LS1 guys shouldn't even waste your gas with those stock Mustang GTs. Hopefully I'll have an LS1 i mine and it'll be more fun! Take care:-)

granted i don't know the curb weight on a 88 monte carlo, but it'd have to be well under 3,000 lbs to keep even with any mustang after the 5.0.

yea, ok "any" mustang, most i see around here are pieces of slow **** that only race 4 cylinders because thats all they can beat, except the very few who wasted their money building their motors in their mustangs with rust holes the size of basketballs, when i had a STOCK 3.8 it would beat 97 gt's all day long, mustangs are crap

when i said any, i meant any v8, that was my mistake i guess. i realize this is ls1tech and so a lot of you hate mustangs lol but hate doesn't change facts.

88monte: i don't doubt you stayed up with them at the beginning or wtvr. im' just saying it SHOULDN'T happen.

that's pretty ignorant.
First of all BS on the v6 beating the v8. Car's weigh about the same, the stang has a bit more hp but alot more tq.

And I dont see my $1800 5.0 build a waste of money at all, it's actually quite a bargain for what it's gonna make.

Yup, i was waiting for someone to point it out cuz I wasn't going to bother with tread the way its going. ,j/k.
Drop a forged flat top h/c 350, add a little n2o or FI for Gods sake! I love 305's, easy to beat on-hard to kill, but damn. My 68 goes through 305 and then a 327 cycles all the time. wear out or break the 327 and put in 305 till i get a 327 built to go back in. Its on its third cycle.

Well, even though I love it, I definately wasnt tryin to brag about the speed in my SS...anyone that has driven one or riden in one will tell you that because of the torque, they are pretty impressive off the line...I was just sayin that I have kept up with quite a few stock 87-04 Mustang GTs for a block or two, and Im in stock form...and the LS"2" 05/06 400HP GTO I messed with handed me my ***! It was just reassurance that the newer LS1/LS2 will hand a STOCK GT its *** too... I would assume that everyone would already know that, but I read "kill stories" all the time about these races. And by the way, Im NOT hating on Mustangs, I happen to like them too, and one of my buddies has a 98 4.6 with a Vortec Supercharger and its the scariest car I've been in.

If you car is clean and it sounds like you take care of it you have a cool *** ride. I like the carlos especially those years around the 87. Cool body style IMO. They can be great sleepers too!

I believe it cause I've done it too in a 3.8 Monte SS. Then again this car runs 15.2@89 MPH bone stock, but it's not supposed to do that either :dunno:. Mustangs with the exception of classics and the brand new ones (05+) are absolute junk. They can be made fast, so can a honda, so it means nothing. They look ugly, their interiors are no better than ours, cept they seem to fall apart faster, 302 blocks crack when you start making decent power, and they are prone to every sort of failure imagineable. Additionally you can't take a junkyard 302 and hit it with a 200 shot and expect it to do anything other than split down the center: a junkyard SBC you can hit it with numerous 200 shots so long as you don't lean it out. I don't get the mustang love here, from 79-04 Ford built a piece of ****, a far bigger piece than what GM built from 82-02.

bowtie, your curb weight for the stang is WAY off. A fox body coupe is almost that light, 97s are ******* pigs, 3400 # minimum and they are 16 second dogs.

oh man, you guys are right, I think I'm gonna go sell my stang now
Man to think I wasted all that money, almost 3500, and I'm only beating 30k sports cars. What the hell is wrong with me?

YOur right.....'CAN' and 'THAT' mustang....unfortunately, he is posting "like" ALL gts are crap...

I am not surprised by the difference in GTs and Goats....you are talking a FULL second in the 1320.....and 140-185 HP/TQ difference (pending GT year).

I've heard of 3.8L Fbodies beating Mustang GTs before, this is not un-heard-of.
