Default 01camaross vs 98vettec5

i just recentley bought my first ls1 and i have to say i love it. I was showing it to this guy at work who really has no idea about the car or engine. He has a 98 c5 vette convertible automatic. By the way my car is an m6. So when i told him that his car has and ls1 and my car has an ls1 he was amazed. so i am leaving work today and i see him in my rearview mirror and he is folliwing me threw traffic so i speed up abit and we get infront of everyone on a two lane road and take off from a roll and easily i took his car?? are those vettes not fast or was he not really on it. The only mods i really have are slp lid and corsa catback exhaust. what do you think. i will ask him about it tommrow??

Maybe it was in a dead spot for him since he had the auto tranny. Also what do you mean by easily taking him? That's very subjective, car lengths is much more accurate. The c5 conv 1/4 mile is about mid 13s, so I'd say you had the edge either way, your minor mods could very well put you down into the low 13s or less if your car is running strong.

a convertible C5 probably weighs almost as much as your car does...i'm not for sure but i know that the vert camaros and trans am weight quite a bit more...so with your mods...i'd say it was a drivers race...find out and let us know.....

The fact that you had to tell him what engine was in his car should tell you everything you need to know. Race someone who knows what their driving and see what the outcome is.

I would think that race was about right. 98 vette with LS1 manifold running a 01 SS with LS6 manifold, lid, and exhaust. That would put the ss at about 330ish at the wheels versus a vette vert that is maybe making 290 at the wheels.

That is a round about 40rwhp difference. Driver or no driver the vette is the under dog due to less power, auto tranny, and equal weight.
