Default Raced a bone stock 05 EVO. Questions!!!

I raced my buddies 05 EVO (stock)last night from 0-110mph. He got me out of the whole until about 70!!! I FINALLY passed him and had only 1 to 1/2 car lengths on him. I have a 98 formula A4 (2.73) bone stock. Is that normally because I thought I would have beat him by more. Thanks

yeah that's about right. out of the hole you play big time catchup like I do against my buddies 06 STI. I have 2.73's also and pass about 80mph

Sounds about right...you have the slowest setup a fbody can have: A4 w/ 2.73's.

Stall or gears or both with fix that nicely.

their top end isn't.....the faster you go the better your odds are...they are heavier, worse aerodynamics, and are ugly (effects racing more than you think)

Nice job... Have to remember that ability to get off the line is huge.. but you hold more top end. Just have to wait it out until you get enough MPH to overtake them.

A change of gears alone would have helped you catch up quicker.

i think i read somewhere that they in the 3200s, lets say 3360 with avg driver. thats a couple hundred lbs lighter than any stock weight LS1 that ive seen (3600+)

mine was 3660 with me and half a tank of gas

They get the awd parasitic loss up top though. That's why my buddies sti ran 13.7@99 I would assume.

I dont think subjective topics like styling affect outcome of races

EVOs typicall weigh between 3250 and 3320 depending on model. The RS (stripped model with no wing) usually weighs around 3180-3200. They are very rare though. The MR weight is about that of hte regular VIII.

My car weighed in at 3321 due to the SSL package (leather, sunroof, Infinity system with syb yada).

AWD has nothing to do with up top really. In general AWD cars put less power to the ground everywhere because of the parasitic loss through 4 wheels instead of 2.

Stock EVOs are weak top end because the boost drops off to 16psi and also because the stock cams really are huge limiting factors.

You can fix the first problem by getting a $80 manual boost controller so the car can hold 19psi to redline instead of 16psi. That 3psi increase helps A LOT.

The cams make the powerband 100x better and able to make power to redline. Stock, the power is falling off after 6500rpm rather quickly (bc of cams and boost taper).

The outcome of the race is completely normal. 05 EVOs stock usually put down around 250awhp while LS1s can be around 275-310awhp, since this guy was A4 probably around 30whp advantage.

Thanks for the input guys. I hoping to get a SLP lid and magnaflow Catback for next spring . Do we see decent gains with these mods?

that's true the near 30% drivetrain loss does suck.

I love when stock wrx's would dyno 160-170 in the 02-03 models. People almost shat themselves. My friend local did have a 300awhp gsx with some big precision turbo. Blew the motor though after a year.
