Default Loss to a Cammed 99^ GT vert

In my pretty much stock LT1. I got behind the guy at a light and we were both turning left on to a two lane road. I got up next to the guy and looked over. It was a guy in his 30's. I had it in 3rd as I rolled up next to him not thinking he was going to just hit it, but he did. I punched it in 3rd but he was pulling away so I down shifted to 2nd quick and stopped his pull a bit. By the time we let off at about 90 he was probably 1-2 cars ahead. He was pulling on me it seemed though. I followed him to a gas station just after we let off. There were two cops sitting in the parking lot so we both just missed from getting busted. Anyway, I talked to the guy a bit. The first thing I said was "please tell me that car isn't stock." I thought it was because it was a vert and had the stock rims on it. He said it wasn't though. He had ported heads, small cams he said, full exhaust (headers back with no cats), 4.10 gears and it was an auto. What would a typical GT run with those mods being an auto. I accepted the loss because he has some work into the car and I didn't lose by much. The guy was cool and clueless about Fbodys. He had no idea what motor I had or what size it was even. He seemed happy though when I told him it was a 350. He said "mines only a 281." Anyway, how did I fair against this mustang?

I would have guessed he would have beat you alot worse than that. Stock for stock an LT1 and a 99 up 2 valve are pretty damn close, with an edge to the LT1. With cams, and ported heads he should be bookin it. I dont know maybe is auto and him being a vert is just killin his power advantage. Good death tho man, maybe next time.

An auto 2v with head work and cams I would guessimate to only be between 290-315rwhp. Good death. Nothing wrong with loosing.... just means more modding. That's the fun part of this hobby.

that is about right. I usually see LT1's and 99 and up GT's a drivers race depending on Auto or manual.

Perhaps...because they dont make cams!!! for the single overhead motor... at least ive never seen em, just the dual (cobra,mach1). LOL i think gears is what let him beat u.

There are TONS of cams out for the 2v motor... he probably had VT Stage 1s, or Comp XE262s, since he said they were kinda small-ish.

ok, so i raced a guy at work who has a 02 GT with 315 nittos, 4:10s, SLP exhaust, hollowed cats, throttle body and well i think thats it. Well, we went first from a 30 or so roll, and it was murder, then we went from a dead stop and i killed him even more, with me loosing traction. Long story short, im a near stock LS1 vert A4 and i stomp lightly modded GTs so u are right in line with ur LT1, in fact u seem like u did pretty damn good.

Soundslike the Mustang driver's fault... he might not have beaten you, but he should have been right with you from a dig, up to about 3rd gear.

You and kidcamaro must be good friends.......I can't believe two people would make such LAME comments so close together in a thread.

4.7 = 289 (64.5-67) UH DUH. NO cams for 2V.....so how the hell does the motor work exactly?

OP - sounds about right to me....maybe a car or two more, but not much. He has the slowest version of a new edge gt...AUTO/Vert. I would be surprised if he is over 300 RWHP......autos are ~210-215 RWHP.....you said mild cams, full exhaust, (tune I presume) and ported heads....85RWHP would be at the most. IMO

I can't wait to have my heads ported and get some VT Stage 2s or Comp XE268s (270s maybe)... my 5spd coupe should run quite a bit better than that auto vert after that
