My stock 99 SS vs. newer NSX
This was a couple months ago, but I will still share...
As i was driving back from work on the freeway one night I was just minding my own buisness. I was kinda hoping for some action on my 50+ miles home, but nothing had cropped up. I saw a few stangs, but no room to run. Just when I thought there'd be nothing, up pulls a yellow Acura NSX. I could tell it was a newer NSX (no older then maybe '02) because of the non-popup headlights. He starts reving at me. I figured why not, if it was stock, I'd have a nice kill story. So I give him the nod and we hit it. I hung with him formaybe one or two seconds, as he preceeded to put a few cars on my. Between 60 mph and 130, only about 3-4. Thats when I figured out it was far from stock. I got a great look at his after-market exhaust, and for a v6 it sounded great. As he shifted I'm pretty sure I heard a BOV. I let off, but he kept going, so no chance for a rematch. I guess not bad for at that time a completely stock SS.

It was probably stock or I/E only. It was definitely NOT turbo'd. They may not keep up with other $90,000 cars, but a stock one should take an Ls1 F-body in the 1/4 if only by a little, and it should beat you pretty good if its starting in its powerband from a roll.

I dunno about that. I just looked up there stock hp numbers, which is at 220 I think, and their top model is 290. Plus he had a passenger and I was alone, so he wasn't that much lighter. Plus he did get ahead of me pretty quickly. And I deffinetly head a BOV, but he might not have been runnin much boost if it was on the stock CR.

A 1997 and up NSX with the 3.2 litre 290 HP engine will take a SS camaro stock for stock with EASE on the freeway...
Now in the 1/4 mile they'd be pretty close. They run around 13.3 at 108 ( although motor trend did get a 12.9 at 110 from one..
When My C5 had 378 rwhp I raced my friends bone stock 290 HP NSX. from a dig i could murder him..
But on a highway roll we were dead even from 70-130 mph many times. If I had been bone stock and still had 299 rwhp he would have easily put 4-5 cars on me at those speeds.
3.2 litre 97 and up NSX's are simply beatse once they get past 4 K rpms. now befor 4 K rpms they are slow as hell (this is why they only run low 13's) but when they hit 4K rpm's it feels like a turbo just kicked in..
I have also raced him when my viper was bone stock and I only pulled his NSX by 4-5 cars from 70-130 mph...
I would easily pull a SS camaro by 8-10 cars at the same speeds...

BTW...The 97 and up NSX's only dyno 265 rwhp...But they weigh 3100 pounds and have 4.10 gears. They also have a 9 K rpm redline..
265 rwhp is pretty weak. but 3100 pounds/4.10 gears and CRAZY revs really make it a fast top end car

I think I can some this up: You hope you heard a blow off valve.
Your talking about a car that was practically designed for highway runs, against an automatic stock fbody. Even if you trapped the same as him in the 1/4 mile (which it doesn't look like you do) he'd still be faster from a highway roll.
It's nothing to be ashamed of, just means you need to start modding!

Well said....
And seriously..1997 and up NSX's are some of the most underrated cars out their.
I thought NSX's were slow as hell till my friend rolled up in a 2005. But I was wayy wrong..
The best wayy that i can desribe it is like this..
NSX...265 rwhp...3100 pounds. Power to weight is 11.2
Fbody...300 rwhp...3400 pounds. power to weight is 11.1
So this would be a drivers race...
*BUT* the NSX has 4.06 gears and a 9 K red line while the Fbody has 3.42 gears and a 6K rpm red line..
making it much faster on the top end
