Default Competition: next M3 gets 420hp V8

Hey guys, Second day here in italy *THREE MONTHS!!!* and i see an article with the new M3: not as flashy as the old one, but it gets a 420hp V8... only glanced so i didnt get specs or times... Not sure if thats news or not.

Anyway... Just thought i'd throw that out there... one more car faster than mine... time for mods... when i get home in May...

-Ciao!

It may be faster but it costs 4x as much too. Imagine what you could do with all that extra money.

Not a comparison at all.

Also we al know about rated HP so it could be more but more likely less to the wheels. So I may not sell the TA just yet!

^^^ BMW is not gonna over rate there car..... if anything it would be the other way around. A BMW with 225hp say 330i feels like its in the range of 280, as do most of the other models.

that would def. be amazing, esp in a 3 series(considerin the weight). I do love the styling of the 01+ M3s, i dont think it can be much better, the new 5 series to me is a let-down styling wise, but they're powerplants get better almost every yr

i agree the styling has went down a hair on the 5 series. but did you get a glimps at the new 335 with the 300hp twin turbo looks killer and probably backs it up

lol, yeah man, they have some of the finest engineering on the road (IMO), but their styling(well maybe not 7 series) took a turn for the worse and they aren't 100% reliable as I had first thought(but still good all things considered). I got a stiffy watching top gears review on the M3 CSL, the sound of the motor is raw and unlike anything else

mmmmmmm hard to say, most bemers are 50/50 weight dist and i think all are RWD or AWD. Ive personally only been in a 00 540i and a 01 M3 and was blown away at the overall package, particularly the handling. HOWEVER, I wouldn't want the repair bill for anything to do with the engine(ive seen E39 M5 vanos system overhauls ranging from 5-12k!, and theyre common). To me tho, I think the Europeans don't give the Americans due credit(but are getting better) I think the new Z06 has changed a lot of opinion there, as well as the V(which I hear now was fine tuned on the nurburgring). I would say they will come out(the tt 330) a bit slower than the f bod and a lot slower than the current vettes, but i had read somewhere that they had found a way to cut spool time for the turbos down to almost nothing! So we'll have to see.

The new 335 is actually lying down anywhere from 270-280whp making some people believe 350 at the crank moreso than the claimed 300

^^^ Ive never been in the 335i but Ive been in a few others, and like I said they seem to be underrated quite a bit, and that 270-280 wouldnt surprise me at all

A 420HP V8 M3 will be a solid 12.7ish car if the weight is the same. SMG launch is useful.

Just have to reconcile that with the fact that it will cost more than a C6. Then again, if I had a DD car for fun that had to be used for long trips and I was older, the M3 might get the nod. Maybe.

270-280WHP means more like 325ish at the crank.

Sorry, but this will be a mid to low 12sec car. The current M3's have hit 12's already. It may not be the norm, but it has happened.

really id like to see how the new m3 stacks against the new camaro. both have aroudn the same hp. andi would think that the weight would be comparable. since bmw is more luxury but tends to try to be as light as possible. and the camaro won't have all that gingerbread to weigh it down. personally im a big audi fan and ilike the rs4 alot and the upcomming r8, but the m3 will definitley be a excellent car.
