Default KYB shocks and struts

Does anyone have them and how are they? I know,Koni's are the best, but I'm not spending $700 on shocks and struts.

I got them with the Prokit, pretty nice. Rides smooth, a tad firmer than stock. The only complaint I have is that going over a big bump will cause the rear to bang a little hard. I have them set on 4 in front and 5 in back.

^ what exactly do yo mean bang a little harder ? Is your car bottoming out or just because shock is stiffer

No, it definitely doesn't bottom out. People just need some forewarning that these aren't Konis and they won't handle stiffer springs as well. But what can someone expect for a cheaper shock? They do their job fine, IMO.

I have the regular KYB's with stock springs on mine and they were only a slight improvement over the worn out DeCarbons. I'll be replacing them with Strano-spec Bilsteins shortly.

They're good with stock springs. Keep in mind you are going to get what you pay for. Bilstiens may be cheaper but they are not adjustable, and only made to work with stock springs. The KYB's are adjustable but adjust compression and rebound with the same **** so if you want more rebound you automatically get more compression. They also are built iffy and don't warranty their shocks with lowering springs. Konis on the other hand are build top notch, warranty their shocks with no questions asked, and adjust rebound independently from compression.

I think most are comparing apples to oranges here. One said that he put in regular KYBs (GR-2s maybe?) and was disappointed. Those are stock replacement shocks. Of course there wouldn't be a big difference. Another stated they sucked, but were put on an Eclipse. Can't really compare two different cars.

You also never said if these are going to be put with stock springs or new springs. That's going to be a deciding factor in ride quality. They really are a nice shock (I'm sure not Koni nice, but they are a bit cheaper). And they are the only alternative to Koni that offer some form of adjustment. So if you don't like the initial settings, you have at least a little bit of play in them. If you have the money to drop on a set of Konis, then definitely go that route. But if you are a college student like me and can't afford anything more expensive, they do the job fine.

That's not too big of a drop then (a bit less aggressive than mine). Honestly, I'd think you would be fine with the AGXs.

Hmmmm.. How to explain this.

AGX's are about price. I sell them, and a fair bit of them. But they are not near Koni or Bilstein quality. The lifetime warranty isn't really a warranty (they'll geneally always find a reason to void it).

The damping is adequate when they are working correctly, but never as good or composed as a Koni. And if they break, which is more common... well a broken shock just doesn't work well at all.

I sell them because they offer some choices and can physically control the spring rate. But they control it like a puncher, not a boxer.
