Default Flairing stainless hardline

Any tips for double flairing stainless hardline. I am not having any luck getting the first "bell shape" in the double flair process. The tubing just wants to push out the bottom of the flair tool. Do I need to get a better flair tool (I have a parts store cheapy) or is there as special technique for flairing stainless.

When you tighten down the line in the vice start on the end closest to the line then do the other side.

a better flaring tool will help. Also make sure you have the line cut extremely square and get all burs off the ends. If you don't the line will split when you try to flair it. Stainless is very difficult to work with compared to mild steel line.

Tightened both down as tight as they would go.

That's what I assumed. I am using a tubing cutter so the cuts are square and I make sure to debur it. Guess I will search for a better flair tool.

This is the style tool I have. Just read on Eastwood that these are not designed for stainless.

Did you use it on stainless line?

we use a hydraulic flaring tool at work on all of our stainless lines and it works great, but they are very pricey. They probably wouldn't be worth the purchase for one time use.
