Default Front brake caliper bracket

I went out to change the front brakes, and the bottom caliper slide bolt was stuck. Like it's rusted in place. Everywhere I look, I see the rear caliper bracket, but not the front. Is there any trick to getting this thing out? Or am I doomed to buying a new bracket? Also, does anybody have one for sale, that can ship it out IMMEDIATELY?!?!?! Or anybody know where I can get one?

Oh yeah, I have a 2001 SS.

Spray it with some penetrating oil and heat it up, ALOT. You need a torch. That's your only choice. If that doesn't work, you have to replace it.

Lucky I'm an engineer at a machine shop. I brought the bracket in to work with me. Before I put a torch on it, I decided to put it in a vise just to see what happen. Clamped it down, applied a little American muscle (what my Camaro is all about), and it came out. If it had of broke, torch, welder, and a drill press was up next.

BTW, that piece from the dealer is $80. Which is kinda ridiculous because you can get a caliper with bracket from RockAuto for $50.

That is a very common problem actually. Due to the design of sliding calipers, the pins often get stuck in the bracket. Auto parts stores stock the most common brackets for vehicles that have known issues with them seizing up, but the 98-02 F-body is not one of them.

Make sure you replace the pins with new ones (prob like $15 from your local parts store for 4 new pins) and lubricate the pins properly. Do not use anything other than caliper lubricant to lube the slide pins, or you will have the same problem again, along with uneven wear on the brake pads and rotors.

I've found that this is one of the best products to use on caliper slide pins:

Its made from synthetic base oils, its waterproof, its extremely tacky, and its good for up to 3000 degrees.

Clean and relubricate the pins approximately once a year, or each time you change brake pads.

Cardone rebuilds brackets & sells them separate, part # 14-1153
Dorman makes them new too complete with hardware, part # 619-002

Any decent parts store should be able to get them for you.
Just in case anyone runs into this problem without an easy solution....
