Default Grinding Noise on driver side rear wheel.

I went canyon carving this weekend and drove the car pretty hard for a good 10 minutes or so.

While it was a lot of fun, the end result was now I have a grinding noise every time i make a left turn. It appears that the grinding noise comes from the rear passenger side wheels, and only happens when the suspension in under load. If make a left turn really slow, everything is jolly. If i speed up a little bit or make a sharper left turn, it grinds.

I took the wheel off to inspect and could not find anything that has a scruff mark. My best guess is the parking brake is grinding against the rotor, or something in that area.

Anybody has experience the same problem before? I just want to see what everyone's opinions on this matter. If I could not pinpoint the problem, I'll just take it to a shop for them to analyze it.

Thanks!

could be a wheel bearing.? i am having the same issues but i think the noise is coming from the front passenger's side. does the noise change any when you: brake, speed up or slow down, press in the clutch, take it out of gear and coast, etc.

Simply put, no.

The noise only appears specifically when i make a rather sharp left turn which put the right rear suspension under load. When I brake, speed up or slow down, press in the clutch, take it out of gear and coast, everything is fine. I did not have the chance to take my rear brakes out as I am hoping that's the culprit, not a bend axle or anything or that sort.

Thanks.

Sounds like a tire or wheel rub to me.

It sounds like that, except i do not see any wheel scruff mark of any sort, that's what bothers me. The thing is, i have to make a rather sharp left turn at around 40mph or more for the sound to exist.

I will lift the car up again this weekend and try to pinpoint the sound.

Check to make sure your rear is centered and all of your bushings are ok.

You could hang a string with a washer on it down from the outsides (or insides) of the wheelwell and measure to see if it's uniform on both sides.

That is exactly what it sounds like!!!

I shall take the rotors out tonight and try to re-install it. I'll see if anything is loose.

Also you may hear rubbing sounds if you have chrome plating that's coming off/peeling from your wheels and rubbing -- it's happening to my stock wheels on my RS...

Did you ever find what caused the grinding noise?

Mine still does it. I'll have to investigate.
