Default Why does my torque arm look like this?

Bought the car about a year ago and this is how the torque arm as always looked. I pulled it off the car because of a clutch swap I'm doing. I scrubbed it with some simple green and a brush and this stuff won't come off. Is it supposed to be there? Of my 4 other F-body cars ( 94 & 95 Z28, 99 T/A, 00 SS) , none have had a torque arm that looked this way. Thanks for any input or ideas.

Maybe so but it's only on one side of the arm.

So is there any inparticular reason as to why my torque arm is the only thing coated on my car?

Its some kind of undercoating like was state. Nothing else is really like that (unless the car got that dealer installed option) because mostly everything else is painted already. It will come off relatively easy with carb/brake cleaner, or even gas.

At least your torque arm isn't coated in gear oil like mine.

Yeah, it was covered in transmission fluid because the trans was leaking around the shifter.

I wonder if it's just an SS/WS6 thing. Maybe something SLP did to these cars? My last SS had a UMI arm on it when purchased and my T/A had an Edelbrock arm so I have nothing to compare to. Both of my Z28's had a regular arm and I've never seen another one like this.

If you bought it used I'm thinking the previous owner put something such as roll in bedliner, roofing tar, undercaot, or some other thype of sealing material on there to keep it from rusting. Maybe the paint was messed up and they slathered that stuff on to keep it good.
