Default Rear springs wont come out

I’m trying to remove my rear shocks on a 02 camaro (60K). I removed the shocks from the rear axle and I still can’t remove springs, even with a large flat head. I was thinking about removing sway bar brackets or end links but I am concerned that the torque arm will break or bend the bracket on transmission. I would really rather not loosen or remove it again. Can the torque arm bracket handle the weight of the rear end?

Should be able to support vehicle on subframe and let rear hang freely then compress the springs by hand and wiggle them out. Should be relatively loose after removing shocks

as long as you dont have the vehicle jacked up/supported by the axle they should come right out once the shocks are off as stated above.

I had a little trouble with this the first time through.. double check and make 100% certain that you're jack stands/jack are not on the lower control arms or the differential/axle etc. I had my jackstands sitting right at the edge of the LCA's and I couldn't get enough clearance for the spring, even with that out of the way it was still on my exhaust next (duals under the axle). I did have to pry my spring out.. good luck! heater hose mod makes it a lot easier to get those back in LOL

Good advice. It's an easy and common thing that people overlook.

I believe because the car has low miles they are being stubborn. The jack stands were under sub frames. My only option is to find another way to lower the axle further

drop the shock, place a prybar under the spring and work it out over it's seat. It should just pop out. I've done a million and they all come out the same way - brand new or old as dirt.

Did you remove the swaybar endlinks? This holds the axle up preventing you from dropping it fully down to remove the springs.

Try articulating the axle by jacking up one side. The side drooping will be low enough the spring should practically fall out, then swap sides to get the other spring out.

*Redneck fix* grab a piece of wood or any long object, find some leverage an pry the spring up from the bottom,it'll pop right out over the seat!!

undo the sway bar endlinks like someone suggested and they will come right out.

I was just thinking this. If you remove the shocks and still can't get enough undo the end links. Pry on the axle to get you that extra distance you need, and the should come out.
