Default C6 Z06 Brake Upgrade Question

I'm going to order the parts to do the C6 Z06 brake upgrade as soon as my new wheels get delivered and installed. I know Kore3 sells the kit for a reasonable price, but I was thinking about putting my own kit together because I don't really like their adapter bracket design.

My only question is what brake lines can I use? Will the factory camaro lines work? I have a full set of SS lines for the camaro, so I was hoping to use them. If not, I think I can still return them to Summit, and then I will just buy from Kore3..

You'll need new lines. They won't be long enough. I'd just get them from Kore... The UMI bracket looks nicer to me, so maybe you can order everything but the bracket from Kore?

That's exactly what I needed to know. I'll just order the lines from kore.

I just did the C5 brakes on my 97. Got the caliper kit and hoses from Kore3 brackets from BMR and ebay rotors. Install was pretty easy.

I have this setup on my 99. The Camaro lines ARE long enough.

The vette lines are like 8 inches longer and need to be managed ( believe me, I have them). Make sure that you use camaro or c5 lines, c6 ones have different body side threads and won't fit.

Use the GM rotors if you are on a budget. They are super cheap and hold up well.

Sounds good.. I might just stick with the SS lines I have now then.

One more question about the pads and rotors. I've decided my car will now be a fun street car, and wont be tracked (or might be tracked once or twice just for fun). I'm going to get the OEM Z06 Rotors and THINKING about getting the Hawk ceramic pads, mainly just to keep the wheels clean. Am I crazy? Or should I just get the HPS pads?

i did the c5 z06 swap and the stock lines worked, they were alittle tight with the suspension fully extended and the wheel turned away from the line but with weight on the suspension they had slack.

Well it looks like Kore3 is out of stock on their brackets and C6 Z06 calipers. Does anyone know any place else that sells the calipers at a decent price? I didn't find anything that great on ebay...

Have you thought about the 6 piston ctsv brakes as an alternative? No aftermarket bracket required, calipers are reasonably priced on amazon, and pads are cheaper.

I have thought about that, but I don't like the idea of using washers for spacers. Washer thicknesses vary so much, I would be worried about positioning the caliper incorrectly. That, and the fact I would have to paint the calipers red (since they dont come red). I suck at painting things.

I've also heard of people having a hard time getting ahold of the guy that sells the custom lines. (flybynite?)

Amazon usually sells the GM calipers cheaper than anywhere.

Core3 is the way to go on the bracket I have c6 zo6 brakes on my 98 Camaro and it was an ease install. I don't think UMI makes a c6 z06 caliper bracket. Check out my post on my upgrade.

good to know...i'm thinking of doing this as i also track my car...i'm hesitating because of the extra weight...the 14" rotor isn't light and if you factor in extra rotational mass...i wonder if it is significantly better than the base c6 setup using the 12.8" rotor.

then again, it looks so damn cool!!!

i think the c6 z06 brakes are totally excessive, between the extra weight of the bigger rims required and the weight of the rotors no thanks. ill stop just as fast with c5 z06 brakes.

I'll admit, I'm going mostly for looks. That's why I went with the C6 Z06 calipers I ordered from Kore3 last night. It will take about 3 weeks, but they were awesome to deal with.
