On the mustang we had the upper and lowers and with the LS1 we have the Torque Arm, I don't see that many other cars with TQ arms, so which is better?

Don't many of the mustang guys upgrade to a "Grigg's Suspension" - which is in effect a torque arm setup?
I believe from a purely theoretical point the torque arm setup has a small advantage - esp. in auto-x. In practicality, with all the aftermarket parts (especially for mustange suspensions) the difference is negligible unless you are very hard core, and then you would step up to something beyond both.

LOL... ummm, really. Never noticed that! My old mustang would get all kinds of crazy on a 12.7 pass! My Formula runs nearly a second faster with less drama.

no offense to you or anything....but with the right set of parts it is easier to get a stang to go straight on stock suspension, thats all i'm saying

an f-body suspension design is similar to a ladder bar
a mustangs design is similar to a 4-link
that is why many mustangs launch straighter and easier because of the design

I have always wondered the same thin. I have an fbody with torque arem , but for drag racing , it almost seems that the upper and lower control arm setup is working better.
How many 8 second torque arm (stock suspension fbodies)cars have you seen. I have not seen any yet. I would love to see one, but have not yet, it will probably be soon though.
Yea some mustangs do seem to get squirly, and i choose the fbody, but stock supsension mustangs are routinely in th 8's , and i think 7's.
The fastest fbodies it seems have hit a wall at 9.0 or 9.1x. They have enough power, as evidenced by the trap speed 150+
Only thing i could figure would be the suspension, because the power is there, and some of the fastest cars are owned by chasis shop or performance shop owners, who probably know how to put power down.
I prefer f bodies, but because of the drag strip performance, especially in realtion to other stock supsension cars ( Especially mustangs) , I wonder if the torque arm is as good as other set- ups.

Exactly..the Torque arm is the limiting issue
i say this because it causes so much squat it is hard to overcome
when you start to get into the fast stock suspension cars,
RIGHT NOW
an upper/lower control arm suspension wins. Look at the G-bodies if you want instead of mustangs

Is this because the upper/lower control arm setup gives the car less leverage over the axle? i.e. Is it easier for the axle to transfer it's rotation into the chassis with the shorter upper control arms versus a long torque arm?
