Default Leaky reservoir?

Anyone else's brake fluid reservoir leak a little fluid?
My car has 24k on it, and it seems like every month or two, the top part of the reservoir is wet like a bit of brake fluid leaked out from under the cap.

Do I need a new cap or what?

thanks

The caps are vented and this is normal. You can put a "sock" around the cap to keep it clean. Works real good. The power steering cap is the same way.

I used a terry cloth rag and some rubber bands.

If your the type that's always wiping that mess up then you will like this easy mod. If your the type to let dirt build up, then this mod may confuse you.

That's debatable. They are both vented caps due to the fluid levels raising and falling so they aren't supposed to leak, but they do. It's only a drop or 2 a day. If it's leaking around the seal, then replace the seal and see if that fixes it. If it's still leaking a tiny amount then it's probably just the normal amount. I see F-bodies all the time in the dealership and they all have that build up of dirt around the caps. The only ones that are semi-clean are the guys who keep their engine bays clean. With the boots on there, mine always stay clean. After 6 months or so they will be dirty, so I toss them and cut out 2 more. Simple.

The brake fluid cap will not leak with a new seal.

The power steering cap may leak with a new cap.

My 1st hand experience.

So you put those towels over the lids?
I though you meant that you replaced the lids with towels.
That's why I was confused.

I thought this was very clear.

You see these all the time on custom cars. You can buy them for $30-$50 each, but I don't see the point of spending all that money.
