Default For those of you with lowered rides and wide rear tires?

I'm just wondering how you guys with lowered street cars running 315s on the back can keep the fender welds from coming down on the tires under hard accerlation? I imagine you have adj. shocks about what setting are you using on the back? I'm needing some help i just lowered mine an inch.

2000 FRC with z51 handling pkg and Nitto 555r drag radials 305 35r18's. 315's won't fit, I have the zo6 rear brake ducts and they just barely clear now.

er.. the first guy is an f-body i presume (fender welds) and the second guy is a corvette..

for the first guy. Lots of people run 315's in the back with no problems on f-bodies. you have to have the correct offset.. 50mm is about right. And then some people have to roll the fender lip up on the inside... not visible from the outside and not a difficult procedure. finally a rod end panhard bar will help you make sure the axle is centered and will ensure that you get no rubbing around corners.

I have an 11" wide rear wheel, but only run a 295 tire on them, but they tuck far enough in that I've had to:

1. Roll the fenders
2. BFH the inner fenders
3. Cut off the bump stops
4. Adjustable panhard rod

I now run bump stops on the rear shocks themselves.

Interesting that I run 315s GS D3s and I have not rolled my fenders. But I am in the minority.

All 315 tires will have varying widths per types. 315 555r tires are not as wide as a lot of 315 tires.

I am on Strano springs and have 315s all around. Rears will probably need a BFH mod, rolled fenders, and either small spacers or bumpstop modification. Fronts need spacers (1/4 or probably more), most likely need the spindle nub ground off, and a small metal lip above the rubber fender liner to be hammered upward. Depending on your car, the tire type, and how big of spacers you want to use will determine what modifications you need to do. I did everything....

I did the BFH mod, rolled the fenders, and centered it very carefully. Under acceleration, it never hit. However, when turning and hitting a bump at the same time (like going into my not very steep driveway), it still rubbed the inner fender well every time. I got tired of messing with it, so I went with 17x9.5 all around and sold my ZR1s.

I use a 3/16 inch spacer in the rear which probably helps me out a little.

Oh and I forgot, I wouldn't use any spacers to fit 315 wheels unless I got longer wheel studs if I were you. Directed toward thread poster. I got the ARP studs all around.

315 GSD3s on 11.5 inch wide CCWs and Strano lowering springs / Koni SAs

all I had to do was beat the inner fender wells with a large hammer and they fit fine. never had a problem during strait line acceleration.

ive got 17x11 zr1`s (315 bfg drags) with DMS springs and the issues i had when i first mounted them up where the inner fenderwells..which i fixed with the BFH mod and an adjustable PHB, then on hard turns the tire would axually grab the stock LCA`s so i replaced them with some tubular ones (spawn i think) and now i havent had a problem at all... and i havent rolled my fenders yet and i doubt im goin too..but i believe the ss and ws6 cars came with a alum. spacer on the bumpstop that is preventing my tire from grabbing the fender...

now ive rode with another friend that has a z28 with 18x10s and 315 bfg drags with bmr springs and it rubs the fender on big bumps

315's on 17x11's here. I have the BFH, rolled fenders, spacer, ajd panhard bar and I never hit on take off but on a decent curb the inner tire rubs the inner fender well a little. For the most part I have no probs and its looks sick as hell and bites hard if I hook.

I just bought 17x11 ZR1 wheels 50 offset but have not mounted any tires yet.

Is the rubbing issue less problematic for those who have NOT lowered their rides?

Finding 315 tires is not fun.

I had to shave the fenders, BFH mod and shave the side of the bumpstop on the drivers side. Then Adj PHR finished it.
They are TTII's w/ Sumitomo 315's btw.

if youre on stock susp., you will NOT rub, anywhere. 17x11 is perfectly safe with stock susp. with no modifications at all. when/if you lower, then roll fenders, Adj. PHB, maybe grind the outside of the bumpstop. or, just whenever jacking the rear of the car up, youll have to jack from the axles/pumpkin, and not the frame. then the bumpstop wont be an issue.

Sumitomo are the best value for money in the 315/40/17 tire. cant beat $96 for a 315, at tirerack. theyre not the BEST of course, but daily driving or weekend toy, theyll do fine. just be extra careful in the rain/snow/mess, like any other tire. theyre not all season snow tires.

Sumitomos are gone at Tirerack. Only Hooser, Dunlop drag, Kuhmo in this size.

theyll be back. tirerack hardly has anything now, theyre in the winter mode. come springtime, high perf. tires will be up again. they hardly have any slicks left (road race), but come better weather, theyre filled with them.

Stock height Z28 with 50mm offsetand 315's. I had to bfh front of inner fender well a little. Then a little more because hard cornering caused it to rub. Also had to cut bump stops nearly in half to clear wheels and tires when jacked up. Lowered it an inch. Then had to bfh inner fender alot. Doesn't hit fender lip. These are with Nitto drag radials which run a little smaller than other tires and adjustable PHR.
