Strut Tower Brace is a piece that connects across the motor, from one strut tower to the other. There are a couple designs available, and the theory is that they stiffen the front of the car by lessening the amount of front end body twist. They're however usually used for appearance purposes more than physical effect.

The SLP suspension package should stiffen your suspension, giving the feel of a bumpier ride (in most cases).

On street tires I noticed no improvements in handling with a shock tower brace (our cars have shocks, not struts, so the correct name would be shock tower brace...third gen camaros used struts)

You got me thinking (that is dangerous sometimes)....

I went here http://www.hyperdictionary.com/searc...p;define=strut and found this:

\Strut\, n. [For senses 2 & 3 cf. LG. strutt rigid.]

1. The act of strutting; a pompous step or walk.

2. (Arch.) In general, any piece of a frame which resists
thrust or pressure in the direction of its own length. See
{Brace}, and Illust. of {Frame}, and {Roof}.

3. (Engin.) Any part of a machine or structure, of which the
principal function is to hold things apart; a brace
subjected to compressive stress; -- the opposite of stay,
and tie.

For shock absorber....

Definition: [n] a mechanical damper; absorbs energy of sudden impulses; "the old car needed a new set of shocks"

Synonyms: cushion, shock

See Also: air cushion, air spring, damper, muffler, suspension, suspension system

For Damper.....

[n] a device that decreases the amplitude of electronic, mechanical, acoustical, or aerodynamic oscillations

A contrivance, as in a pianoforte, to deaden vibrations;
or, as in other pieces of mechanism, to check some action
at a particular time.

Technically,

Any part of a machine or structure, of which the
principal function is to hold things apart; a brace
subjected to compressive stress
Since the shock and spring become a coilover and therefore are load bearing....are they a strut? I guess it is a shock, but a MacPherson strut (like a 3rd gen) has no spring and is not directly load bearing (it keeps thing pointed the right directions...but dosen't support weight. Is it a strut? I'm not sure. Based on this definition and the others listed they are all dampers. Or are they???

Thoughts????

Matt,

The stock shocks are about as soft and cushy as you will find. My Z was Cadillac smooth (and just as "floaty") when running on the stock parts. If you have stock shocks that are worn out or bushings and such that need replaced, you may not have a "good" ride. But, most people think these cars ride unusually well for "sports cars" on the factory parts. Is your car lowered? How many miles are on it?

Tires can effect your ride too. I went from GSC's to Pirellis a few years back and couldn't believe the change. Also check your air pressure if you haven't already.
