Default Flowmaster Surgery

Well we all know about the infamous Flowmaster cat-back. Not to many guys would even let it touch their car let alone install it on their car. Well I ran across a used Flowmaster cat-back..picked it up for $30. After purchasing the cat-back I researched the cat-back and further foud out the the flow of the muffler is horrible according to many board members...Hell after the little amount I paid for it I said "What the hell, lets open it up."...so I decided to open her up and see what was wrong with the muffler that makes them not flow the best. After cutting a square access panel in the bottom of the muffler, I opend it up and found a mess of rotting metal and a maze of baffles. It all had to go. I tore it all out and opened it up a little bit. I'm curious to see what it sounds like behind my Mac headers and ory with the cam..I'll keep you guys updated.

p.s. I've never seen or heard of anyone doing this with this cat-back so I thought I'd share. I included a few before and after pics.

If anything put you a separator plate shape into a v, The point closest to the inlet..
Then it would become a single chamber Flow..
Put it about mid ways in the muffler

It'll sound hollow and raspy and will create large chamber that'll slow the flow of exhaust.

Could jst get a 1 gal paint can and put it on there.

I was going to cut an old flowmaster open before I threw it away. My brother in law said it was very common in the 70's to cut mufflers apart, weld in a straight pipe, weld it back up and install the welded cut facing up. This was so you couldn't get a ticket for no muffler, but basically run straight pipes.

You've got to put something in there, that will sound like ***.

The $30 was worth it, just cut the muffler out and put a magnaflow muffler in it's place.
