What do you mean by "got in"? It is a festival that is held at multiple locations (close to 100 different places). Some shows are free, but most of the SXSW venues are not. There are also like 3 more festivals that go on at the same time which don't charge, because not every bar is a SXSW venue. If it is a SXSW venue, there is no way you will get in for free without a badge or wrist band, if it is not free, unless you sneak in. I pick up bartending shifts downtown, and have worked it since 2004. For example this year I am working at cheers which is not a SXSW venue, however we are not charging cover and have bands playing. If you get a wrist band you can go to all the special parties and so forth. They always have booze and food, most have bar tabs during the day. Just remember that priority goes to the passes. So if a bar is at capacity, platinum passes take priority over wrist bands. Those are given to employees, high up bands, magizine editors, and so on.

Also you can pay a cover to get in which SXSW venue you wish, but they only allow 50 per venue for the day which isn't alot.
