Default new toy (Dirt Bike)

so i was bored looking at dirt bikes on craigslist and i came a cross a 1985 Yamaha YZ-125 they guy had it up for 300 bucks. So i called the guy up and asked if he had it (month old listing) and he did and i asked how much he wanted and said you can have it for 100 bucks if you come get it tonight, so i went to go get it

he said he put a new coil on it and replaced all the gaskets on the motor but it isnt getting any spark, so he opend the stator case on it to find it half full of water and a shop told him more then likely the stator was why its not getting any spark, the bike is in pieces but i dont care im gonna replace most of the plastic anyways lol

and the stator which i know for a fact it will need to be replaced or have ONE hell of a cleaning cause its all rusty lol

so for 100 bucks i got a bike that needs MAYBE 500 in parts to run and im feeling pretty good about it

btw this is my first dirt bike hense why i went for a 125 instead of larger

i already ordered the full OEM stator assembly off ebay for 125 bucks and should hopefully have it by friday

Couldn't you have just spent $600 dollars on an already running old motocross bike? I have a feeling it is going to cost you way more than that to get this thing running.

First you will be spending closer to $1500+ to get that running..

Second on your first bike a 125 2-stroke its alot hard to learn and ride then a 250 4-stroke..... Reason being the 125 you have to always be in it power band vs the 250 4-stroke it alot easier to ride.... IMO

125 is a great bike to learn on. Four strokes make you lazy cause they are so linear.

But i'm with everyone else, alot more than 500 to get that running, due to the fact that used parts arent going to be that readily available because of it's age.

I'm selling a perfectly running, good shape, street legal XR350 to a buddy for $400 and i had trouble getting that for it.

damn 32psi is crazy low. It may have internal engine damage at that point. IDK what the compression is supposed to be, but on my YZ250, about 150psi and they stop running. 210psi is what a normal fresh top end produces at normal altitudes.

Should be fun to rebuild though. I just hope you can find used parts for it at a decent price.
