Sounds like a BCM issue maybe....

Somewhere in there, the controller is getting a quick signal to turn on the headlights. Give me a minute and I'll see if I can find a schematic.

My blue 98 t/a did this until i replaced the plastic gears in the headlight motors, and once I did that it stoped. Does it make a grinding noise after you lock it?

x2 - The stock nylon gears with some worn teeth can cause them to do strange things, but you'd usually hear some horrible grinding that you couldn't miss. Also check that the connectors on the harness going to the lights/motors are clean and well seated.

Just go up to autozone and they can order you a new motor. I would replace both of them with new motors not just the gears. I think it was 75 for the passenger side and 125 for the drivers side. They will give you 25 cash back when you bring the broken parts back as a core. I saw they are using nut and bolt to renforce the gears instead of just the glue or poxy. GL

You can save yourself ALOT of money and just order the gears. I just replaced mine with nylon gears. Threw in a little extra high temp grease and glued em back together. Good as new.

if you manually spin the gear 90 degrees it will fix it. basically you pop the hood, raise the headlights, disconect the rasiing arm, and then turn the motor again, takes ten minutes. search for the writeup it has pictures and everything
